I'm thinking about diving into Country music during Rodeo Season. I'd appreciate any help with my limited knowledge:

Best 80s Country:
George Strait
Randy Travis
Alan Jackson
Alabama
Willie Nelson

Best 90s Country:
Garth Brooks
George Strait
Toby Keith
Clint Black
…. Some random bands? Maybe Diamond Rio or Restless Heart?

2000-2010
Brad Paisley
Keith Somebody
Somebody Keith
????

2010- 2020
Sturgill Simpson
Zac Brown Band
????

I realize Country turned to Pop somewhere along the way. I really don't care anymore. I'm just looking for something new to listen to.

That's basically my nostalgia list, don't @ me for the schlocky 90s formulaic stuff I still love because I didn't know better at the time.

Alan Jackson first started hitting it big in the early 90's.

30 or 40 years ago is all the same to me. I thought there were a couple of George Strait-types in the late 80s.

I've tried and rejected Turnpike Troubadours and Jason Isbell. I really like Midland.

TF you mean you rejected Isbell and Turnpike Troubadours?

I know it's new country but I can't not like Luke Combs.

Riley Green is very good for modern country. Has a very southern feel to his music.
I also like Read Southall Band, they are more red-dirt. (Country with a little bit of rock infused)
Cody Johnson is extremely popular, but I would start listening to his older stuff first, before he signed a record deal.
Cody Jinks is like new-age outlaw country.
Obviously Koe Wetzel and Parker McCollum are some of the most popular current texas artists.

Both of those posts are almost the exclusively list of country I listen to.

Cash finds his way into that list a good bit.

I actually have SS&tS on in the other room. I find them to be one band where they really don't have a single bad song I'll skip.

Whiskey Myers is badass, but they aren't really country. They are rock.
