I love the Dave Grohl quote, "that's the great thing about music, you can sing a song to 85000 people and they sing it back for 85000 different reasons." I hope he and Eddie Vedder live forever.

The question doesn't really play into "sudden loss" variable. For example Kobe struck me more than I had ever anticipated it to because it was so sudden and without any foresight. I'll even add Heath Ledger to that mix as it was just after he wrapped up on The Dark Night with a stellar performance. We didn't see them grow old and live their lives out. A lot of the responses here previously are celebrities' who are in their silver years already.
