Sixpence None The Richer - New Braunfels band. Leigh Nash explained band's name during Letterman interview…. It comes from a book by C. S. Lewis called Mere Christianity. A little boy asks his father if he can get a sixpencea very small amount of English currency in use at the timeto go and get a gift for his father. The father gladly accepts the gift and he's really happy with it, but he also realizes that he's not any richer for the transaction. C.S. Lewis was comparing that to his belief that God has given him, and us, the gifts that we possess, and to serve him the way we should, we should do it humblyrealizing how we got the gifts in the first place.

I didn't know Sixpence None the Richer was from New Braunfels.

There's a lot of sorry band names out there. Imagine sitting with your band and having a list of names to choose from and something like Oingo Boingo was the best on the list.

Its all subjective I guess. A lot of these names aren't really bad. Disliking a name because it's some pun really isn't a valid reason. I had a group in college and the hardest thing we ever did was try coming up with a name. After 70 years of rock and roll it's not easy coming up with something that doesn't sound awful and is still available.

My church's contemporary service band played gigs under the name Valsalva. Both a great and awful name.
