Was that whole Phoenix saga from several years ago ever confirmed if he was conducting an elaborate bit, or did he lose his mind for a while?
there was a time when he was doing an elaborate bit (see his really weird appearance on David letterman) for a role…..but overall the guy is weird but I think it's more of a social anxiety/ anti-social type….dude just keeps to himself and seems to really hate interviews but I wouldn't put him in the same category as say Mel Gibson or Jim Carrey

That's what I'm thinking about - his Letterman appearance. I recall him dropping off the face of the earth either after that or he was off the grid for a while leading up to it.

it was a massively elaborate bit for a movie he was making called I'm Still Here which was supposed to be a documentary of him becoming a rapper. Except it was more of a mocumentary (I take it as similar to This Is Spinal Tap) but shot in a way that it was supposed to be taken seriously

then the Joker wins….

Actually I've never seen the movie but just reading up on a few things about it it's actually seemingly up there with Andy Kaufman levels of trolling and entertainment….pretty awesome actually

I just assume that every single A-list Hollywood person I have heard of is a despicable sociopath behind closed doors, and is involved in the most heinous, degenerate things you can think of.

There's most likely truth to all the crazy stuff Corey Feldman has said for years.

Literally everyone knew about Harvey Weinstein.
Let's go, Brandon!

As for Pitt, he actually seems like a good guy and is heavily involved in Habitat for Humanity.

Here is an example of the opposite to lighten your spirits:

When Jimmy Stewart died, a bunch of stories came out about him. One I heard on the radio was that he was the final stop of a particular "tour of the homes of the stars" company. The reason for this is that, unlike other stars, he didn't have a gated wall around his house. And often he would be outside with his wife working on the garden and stuff. And whenever the bus pulled up when they were outside, they would invite the entire bus load of people inside for drinks. And they would spend a good amount of time with the tourists. Apparently that happened pretty often.

I mean the dude believes in the paranormal. His father was well-steeped in that topic and Dan was raised on it.

The real question is how did he get into comedy with that background. Probably a very fascinating story.
