The book was written in the 50s, so probably a lot more suggestive on the sex aspect than the movie seems like it will be. The author is the same one as Talented Mr. Ripley and Strangers on a Train, amongst others, so probably big on the suspense and psychological torment aspects.

The movie errs on the side of suggestive as well.

The forced parallels were WTF moments.

  • Affleck playing with his snails and the wife giving a guy a handjob in the car.
  • The daughter throws a suitcase in the pool and the old guy drives into a river.

Trying to figure out if I was too stupid to understand what they were getting at or if it was really as idiotic as it seemed.

it was the strangest movie. the acting wasn't bad. the sets and direction itself weren't bad.

but it was just bad.

Seeing Ana De Armas half naked is never a bad thing. But that's about the only good thing in the movie.

The abrupt ending sealed the deal.
