Might not be anyone left in Hollywood before long. Great cast I. This movie too, bet it will be good if it ever makes it out.

One of the most beloved actors in and out of Hollywood. Curious to hear what he may or may not have done, and see how severe the consequences are, all things considered. Will be a interesting test case for cancel culture, at a point when more and more people (including myself) are becoming increasingly fed up with it and Twitter mobs in general.

Then his on set behavior is completely different than his public persona.

I've heard he's hard to get to actually consider your movie, unless you're Wes Anderson (whom he just says 'yes' to, whenever he calls). I've also heard he can be a little difficult to stick to schedules and such, but i've never heard about him being a dick to people.

He is actually notorious for being a good sport with fans. Supposed to be one of those guys that will just do something random with people.

I've never heard that once. He's notoriously tough to contact/cast, as he doesn't have an agent and you basically have to know someone who knows someone who knows him, to get in touch with him, and he's definitely pr/ckly about what parts he chooses. But every story I've ever heard about him as a person has been nothing but positive and glowing. I'm not saying he hasn't ever been a d*ck, I'm just saying he's not at all known for being one.

I've read that he is difficult to work with, seen that mentioned many times over the years. You can probably google "bill murray mean" or "bill Murray hard to work with". Nasty breakup, with lots of allegations, from his wife and breakup with Ramis. Murray says he only acts nasty to nasty people, and that's kind of believable, but definitely easy to find rumors - who knows what is fact. Doesn't change the fact he is beloved to his fans and a talented and interesting performer.

Yeah, I hear you. I just don't always associate "difficult to work with" with "assh*ole on set," for myriad reasons. I've heard multiple people say that Anne Hathaway is "difficult to work with," but most everyone agrees that she's a nice person and treats everyone on set with respect, the latter I can attest to first-hand. Some people just have more of a demanding "process" than others, and as long as they don't go full Jared Leto, I get wanting to do things a certain way, having periodic clashes with the director over the material, etc.

And granted, Richard Dreyfuss *is* known for being an assh*le, so who knows.

That said, I once worked across the hall from Laura Ziskin and she was nice anytime I saw her, at least. Either way, I couldn't imagine ripping her glasses off her face, no matter what she said.

When we were stationed in Monterey, we got to work the Pebble beach tournament. The beginning of the week, you could talk to everyone. My husband favorite group was Bill Murray, George Lopez, Dennis Quaid and Huey Lewis. They stopped and talked to everyone and were nothing but respectful.

I think I read this article from this board at one point but a hilarious story on getting Murray in a movie.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2014/09/05/casting-bill-murray-st-vincent-toronto-film-festival/15148287/

Quote:

Oh god, that story's so crazy," says Melfi, laughing. "The nuts and bolts is (Murray) has no agent and manager, as everyone knows. You just call the 1-800 number. And I left, I don't know, a dozen messages. It's not his voice on there. It's a Skytel voicemail with a menu. You have to record the message and send the message. It's so confusing. I think if you can get through that and believe in it, he might call you back. I started calling once a week, and then sometimes once every two weeks so I didn't annoy him. He never called back. I finally called his lawyer and said, 'I'm trying reach Bill.' And he goes, 'What number do you got?' And I go, 'I've got the 800 number.' And he goes, 'Well that's what I got.'
"So I finally call his lawyer, it must have been at least six weeks later after all these messages. (The lawyer suggests Melfi write Murray a snail mail letter.) A 'Dear Bill' letter. To a post office box back in New York. Two weeks later, (Murray) calls his attorney and goes, 'OK the letter was swell. I'd like to read the script. Have him snail mail a script.' To another post office box on Martha's Vineyard. Bill is a nomad. He's never in one place for long.
"And so we snail-mailed a script. Bill calls two weeks later, he picks up the phone and calls my producer's assistant (who is flabbergasted) and says, 'I never got that script.' So we Fed Ex the script to a place in North Carolina. Two or three weeks after that, driving down the road I'm in the middle of a commercial job and my phone rings and he goes, 'Ted? It's Bill Murray. Is this a good time?'
I pull over and he goes, 'Listen, I got this script of yours and I don't know who you are. I don't Google people. I don't know who you are, what you do. Tell me about yourself.' So that was 20 minutes of me stammering around trying to tell Bill Murray who I am. And he goes, 'Well, that sounds good.' And this was on a Wednesday; I was shooting a commercial the next day. And he goes, 'Want to get together and have a coffee and talk about the script?' I say, 'I'd love to.' He goes, 'How about tomorrow?' And I go, 'Well, it depends on what time, maybe …' Bill goes, 'In New York.' (Melfi was in L.A.) Bill goes, 'Oh. How about Friday?' I say, 'Um, I don't think I can get (to New York) on Friday. He says, 'No, in Cannes.'
Melfi laughs. "'I say, 'No I can't get to Cannes Friday, Bill, I'd have to leave today.' He goes, 'Oh, well, you know it's going to be a good time.' (He was premieringMoonrise Kingdom.) But don't worry about it, we'll connect later. I'll call you in a couple of weeks.' (Melfi is now frantic.) I say, 'Bill, is there a better number for you, anything ' He goes, 'No no, you've got the number.' (The call ended and Murray disappeared.)
"I wanted to shoot myself. About three weeks later I'm in limbo, literally dying painfully. I've thrown my back out I'm so stressed out about the whole thing. It's Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I'm in bed at 8 a.m. and I get a text: Ted it's Bill. Can you meet me at LAX in an hour? And I write back, Yeah I'll be there! Murray: I'll be at baggage claim, flight so-and-so.
"So I take a Vicodin and get in my car and I drive to LAX. I go to baggage claim and there's a guy in a black rumpled suit holding a card that says 'B. Murray' on it. I go, 'I think I'm with you.' He says, 'Yeah?' I think,oh god, he doesn't know anything either. Bill Murray comes walking down the hall with his golf bag and goes, 'Ted? You want to talk about the script? Let's go for a drive.'
So we get in this town car with this driver and we stop and get four In and Out grilled cheeses and two orders of fries. And he pulls out the script from his attach case; it's got dog-ears on it, some scratches here and there. And we drive from L.A. to three hours south at the Pechanga Indian reservation. I have no idea where I am or where I'm going. We drive and drive and drive. We end up at the back of this reservation on a golf course. He has a house there. We talk about the script the entire way.
"We pull into this house and he tours me around. He's got tangelo trees and avocado growing next door. I used the bathroom. I go back outside and he goes, 'Alright, this is great. Do you think we should do it?' (Melfi says he'd love to.) He goes, 'OK, we're gonna do it. We'll make the movie.' I said, 'That's so great Bill, just one thing, if you could do one thing for me. Could you tell someone other than me that this happened? No one is going to believe this story. I can't possibly go to the studio and say Bill Murray said yes on the way to the Indian reservation in the back of a town car. Murray said, 'I'll call someone, don't worry about it.' "

I'm not, but I'm not interested in the lives of any celebrities. I'm embarrassed for anyone who is, really. This is like caring about the royal family.

Bill Murray is a genius at entertaining people. I don't really care if he's an a-hole or a great guy.

Congratulations.

For the record, I don't "care" in any meaningful sense, but I am *curious* from a cultural standpoint.

That, and there are multiple forums on this site devoted to grown ass men spending an inordinate amount of time obsessing over and defining their happiness based on the lives, whims, and performances of 17, 18, and 19-year-old teenagers.

So, no matter how you slice it, this seems like the wrong website to come and talk down to people for discussing such matters.

Interesting, I guess this only applies if you like their entertainment?

He's a "d-bag", "selfish prima donna", you "find humor in fans seeing what a selfish jerk their favorite entertainers are" (you could argue this is the aim of this thread), and I'm sure there is more in that thread if I kept scanning.

I don't know who Eric Church is, but I got a little ...I guess the word is triggered these days....when I saw someone on the entertainment board who clicked on a thread about Bill Murray's personal behavior and then attempted to shame people caring about Bill Murray's personal behavior. I wondered what other posts does this guy have on the entertainment board that might make him look like a hypocrite, little did I suspect I'd only have to go back a couple weeks to find a thread you started, with an entertainer's name in the thread title, attempting to shame an entertainer for their personal choices and not their entertainment content.

I only give money to texags so that I can use the forum search feature.

isn't the story behind Garfield pretty dang funny? IIRC all he knew was he was wanted as the voice and when he was told who was directing it he immediately agreed without reading the script….only problem was he heard the directors last name and assumed it was one he's known and really liked, and come to find out it was a different director….

Eric church cancelled a concert at the expense of his fans. That's crapping on your audience. If Bill Murray is a pig to women (I don't know what the accusation is) that doesn't necessarily affect fans of his humor. Hope that helps.

There is a distinction. I honestly don't care about others personal lives. I care about how someone acts in their profession. Eric Church disrespected his fans. I think that is pathetic. Bill Murray hasn't done that as far as I know.

Edit to add that if you think I am a hypocrite for criticizing church for screwing his fans over and relishing them realizing he's a jerk, it's because my general assumption is that most celebrities are jerks. It's nice to hear when they are not, but I really don't care too much, and it doesn't affect how I value their entertainment value.
