Yeah, the NYT article was written about a recent ADL report (first citation in the article) which you can access in full here (click the section you'd like to read in the top menu or download the full report). And yes, they list all the events in their data section of the report.

https://www.adl.org/murder-and-extremism-2021#executive-summary
Over 300 killings in the last 10 years OMG! In a nation of 350MM!

By far the biggest thing we should be worrying about...especially black males and Jewish peeps! LOL

I still do not even trust their data...would be shocked if they weren't omitting incidents in their favor and fluffing up those from the right. Just read their verbiage...clearly supremely biased...they don't even try to hide it at all.

Once again... you went from saying "never" to now downplaying 300 lives lost in 10 years. Not to mention the fact that these are murders, when basically all you've been talking about is property damage (which is bad, no doubt, but obviously doesn't hold a candle to 300 people losing their lives).

The report itself...

... where, yeah, they provide a ton of their data/research.

New day, same story. aTmAg claims something without actually looking it up himself, and then when data is provided, just as so many F16ers do, bends over backwards to say that the source is unreliable, fake news, etc, simply because the conclusion doesn't meet their worldview.
Dude.. I hadn't even responded yet. How do you confuse those those names?

I'll look into the ADL study. But it's clear you didn't even read it yourself. When I responded assuming it was the CSIS study, you sure as hell didn't chime in to say it was the ADL study. You clearly just posted a NYT article without doing an ounce of research yourself.

So if you look at the incidents, the ADL study is clearly ridiculous.

When I think of terrorist attacks, I think of 9/11 (obviously), Morrow building bombing, the congressional baseball shooting, etc. You know.. when people threaten or engage in violent acts for a political goal. That's the definition.

This study finds murders, looks to see if they are members of particular groups and then links it to "extremism" if they are. For example, one guy shot his roommate due to an argument. Why did they count that in this study? Because the murderer had a Swastika tattoo. Therefore he is "right wing" and the incident was "right wing extremism". Another was an insane dude who beat a (white) hotel maid to death. How is that "terrorism" or "extremism"? Again because of tattoos. Another guy strangled his wife to death, but he had a "white supremacist past". These are all BS. Likewise, if a liberal shot his wife to death and was a member of the Bernie bros, I wouldn't count that as "left wing extremism". It would also be another run of the mill murder.

Hell, more murders occur within Chicago in one month than this study includes for the whole year. Are we to believe that NONE of those murderers (in Chicago and elsewhere) hated Trump, republicans, white people, the police, etc.? Ridiculous. I can see why Boo Weekly discounts this study completely. It's a joke.

It still upsets me to no end that someone 18 years ago thought it would be a good idea to make an AvP movie that was PG-13. Like what the ****? One has weapons that blows people to literal bits, the other reproduces by laying eggs in and bursting out of stomachs. I hope someone was fired for that abomination of a decision

Tired of explaining myself...I don't know how to simplify it any further. I wasn't claiming white supremacists, or guys with crazy tattoos have never killed people over the years. I was talking specifically about riots, and the riots were deadly...quiet a few people were killed. Not going to address this any further as I realize I am largely responsible for a big derail on a thread about what looks to be an amazing movie and possible Oscar contender.

I want a sequel to this movie where a Predator crash lands in San Antonio de Bexar in 1836, loses his memory, and Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie convince him he's a Texian and he has to defend the Alamo from those dam dirty Mexicans.

Cue Predator wearing a cowboy hat holding Santa Ana's sliced-off head back into town followed by an impromptu party where everyone goes tubing down the Guadalupe.

Come on, this is Hollywood. This will be about a confused young warrior trying to find his sexual identity amidst the chaos of an unknown "alien" threat. He just wants to live a happy life but fate has other things in mind. After being raped by the predator he tames his inner demons, finds love in the unlikeliest of places, and saves his village elders thus cementing his future as chieftain.

Curious, do the Comanche that bother you so much because they were in Texas?
Or do you bash the dozens of other cultures that were just as brutal?

The Aztecs were sick freaks.

One of the most disturbing bits of history is found in Fehrenbachs Fire and Blood. A king sent his daughter to a smaller tribes elder for marriage and alliance. The king was to arrive 2 weeks after his daughter to attend the wedding. The king arrived and the chieftain was wearing the daughter as his skin.
ALso the Mayans...children sacrificed everywhere...nowadays couples in their bathing suits walk all over the ruins where the societal slaughters took place.

In a new interview with Empire Magazine (via AvP Galaxy), Prey director Dan Trachtenberg revealed the inspiration for his Predator prequel came from an experience in the third grade.
Quote:

In third grade, I was on the way to a karate tournament with these [older kids] who had seen [Predator], and over the entire trip they described the whole movie. I vividly remember them saying there was this character, Billy [Sonny Landham], a Native American scout who fights the Predator on the bridge over a waterfall. That image captured my imagination.

I guess this keeps hope alive of me getting the financing for the movie I concocted in third grade - me building a replica of the Milennium Falcon in my backyard and using it to fight off aliens attacking the Earth along side my two co-pilots: Christie Brinkley and Loni Anderson.

The only other movie the director has made was 10 Cloverfield Lane, which I thought was good. Lots of tension & dialogue driven.

It gives me hope that this won't be a total sh*tshow like those Alien v Predator movies generally were.

Also, remember that despite all the firepower in the original Predator, Dutch (covered in cool wet mud) finally manages to cripple it with a primitive trap & he only did so because the creature decides to fight him hand to hand. I could see this movie taking a similar story line.

It's going to be interesting to see how they portray the Comanche. If this is truly set 300 years ago, I don't think they really had horses at that point and were thus a completely different culture than the ones Jack Hayes & Mackenzie fought against.

wow a callout to Ranald Mackenzie!!

he is one of the characters in my book...

I think this film will suck because it obfuscates two mechanics of Predator lore:

1) adapting technology. Humans die and as the protagonist observes these deaths, he learns what is effective and what isnt. The problem with doing natives is they had basically stone age weaponry, like the atl-atl. Sure they had the bow, but when we think of Indians with bows we tend to think 19th century longbows of cowboys vs indians. Historically the bows werent like that and the atl-atl had greater range and penetration. So depending when this film actually sets place, they will be exceedingly limited by human's technology. They could push it to manifest destiny era and have americans with colts get wiped out...and use sage indians connected with nature to overcome. But damn that's cliche.

2) prey or pass. One of the important distinctions we learn from Predators is they are in it for the hunt and seek to kill with honor. If you are unarmed or are pregnant, they refuse to kill you. But tying to point 1, the predators will be looking at indians with flint-knives and/or antler tools. These common tools have lethality, but they are also carried and used by women and children. How would a predator discern a male warrior carrying a knife as a weapon vs a wife with a skinning knife to harvest the tatonka? I guess they just give the innocent plot armor and keep them out of harm's way...or they slaughter the tribe and make the Preds evil, or "this is why indians havent advanced, Preds keep exterminating tribes."

Truthfully, unless they take liberties this will be boring. Yes you had Billy in the first film square off with a big knife, but the more ancient you make the setting, the less "fun" the film will be because of the technology limitations.

Judging by the trailer, it looks like they regressed the predator tech as well. Looks like they are shooting some kind of giant arrows, and I'm betting they don't get armored out like they typically do. I bet they will explain it away as them trying to make it fair between them and the tribe. I did see them shooting muskets, so it looks like it's set after the whites get there.

Yahoo thinks it's the second best effort amongst the 7 Predator related movies.

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/predator-movies-ranked-worst-best-133000486.html

As an added bonus:
Quote:

The film was shot in both English and Comanche to make it both accessible and genuine, with producer Jhane Myers explaining to SlashFilm, "That's really important to me being Comanche and working with our Comanche language department, also with working with Comanche language speakers. But just the fact that people will have a choice, the world will have a choice to listen to the whole film in Comanche is amazing."
. . .
"Both languages are spoken, but when you hear English, it's as if it's Comanche," he said. "But what Jhane is speaking to is on Hulu, there will be a Comanche dub of the movie, so you can watch the entire movie in Comanche with the original actors returning to perform their roles."
. . .
It's the first film ever to be available entirely in Comanche, and Hulu viewers will get to choose which version they want to watch and hear.
. . .
He went on to say that they chose not to have the Predator(s) do an English dub, so it's still only guttural clicks and growls for them.

Audience or critic?

If both of those are relatively high the movie will tend to be great.
If the critic score is low and the audience score is high good chance it will be a fun movie.
If the critic score is high and the audience score is low, odds are it got brigaded by some faux outrage.
