I think my level of fandom was directly affected by the quality of the material (or lack thereof). I saw the originals when I was 9-11. Loved those and had them on VHS. That was also when they did the re-release in theatres of the special editions. I especially remember going to see the phantom menace in the theatres and enjoying it.

But for some reason, I have no memory of Attack of the Clones coming out. The first time I saw that, it was renting it from Blockbuster. I was trying to think about why I lost interest, but then it hit me. Something else came out a year before Attack of the Clones that completely stole my imagination at 14, and had a bigger impact on me than any of the Star Wars movies ever did. The Fellowship of the Ring.
This is me too. I was to young to see the original trilogy in theatres, then too old to be super invested in the prequels. So I've never been super passionate about star Wars. But I've seen all the movies and TV, but not because I super love Star Wars but more that you have to see them to participate in pop culture these days. I haven't rewatched the movies much at all. As they release more media and water it down that need to participate is getting less and less.

They're just making up for lost time.

As long as they're great stories to tell…..let it ride Jack!
unfortunately Disney has done a crap job of telling those stories.

I'd like to go back in time and clone the people in charge of the MCU, fire everyone from Disney (especially Kathleen Kennedy) in charge of SW and put the MCU Clones in charge of the Star Wars Universe.

Then we'd have not only good stories, but they'd be freaking awesome on the big screen.

Or maybe just tell JJ Abrams he cannot make the first movie until the ENTIRE TRILOGY is planned out and NO SUPER WEAPONS and we'd have some good stuff. I think the 1st hour of TFA is some of the best SW ever told/screened. After that is just falls to crap.

I still tell my kids that my favorite all-time movie experience was seeing Star Wars in the theatre, and ESB and ROTJ are both in top 5. I collected the cards and loved Star Wars. At one point, I would have considered myself a super fan.

Time passed, and when 1-3 were released, I was excited for them and really got to enjoy watching them with my kids. However, the shine had definitely worn off. For episodes 7-9, I can't watch them again and if I talk about them, I just shake my head and eventually start rambling on about what's wrong with them.

I did like Rogue 1 and Solo, but now feel like I watch Mando and Boba Fett out of some service to my younger self.

The problem I've had with the franchise since Disney took over is there a certain level of predictability about a character based on how they cast the character, and it holds true for a lot of Marvel (and Jurassic Park) stuff.

Basically, if a meaningful character is portrayed by a minority (non-Asian) or woman, they will ultimately be good and often better (unless they are the same race as the hero).

I'm trying to think of exceptions to that, and at this moment, I can only think of Hela from Thor: Ragnorak.

It's why there was 0 surprise when Reva returns Luke to his family. And that's my issue, the character's race/gender should not be spoilers for what they will be.

Some people think every message board topic is a personal request for their response.

Like my in-laws thinking every post of mine they see on Facebook is a personal communication to them that requires a response.

As someone who enjoyed the books and enjoyed many of the games prior to the prequel trilogy, I gotta admit the prequels were disappointing.

Like AoTc where OBIWAN KENOBI is spending an hour of screen time tracking down an assassin and bounty hunter then stumbles upon the clone army and somehow the jedi just instinctively decide to command this army and initiate the clone wars. Like wtf were the creators thinking?

But that writing is miles ahead of fking Luke Skywalker and "somehow Palpatine returned." When JJ Abrams was talking about his mystery box theory about SW it is clear he didn't understand the IP, he thought the magic was in the storytelling not in the concepts or the subtext.

I wonder how the prequels would be if they had given the dialog another once over, so it wasnt so stilted sounding. We know most of those people were great actors, so no way its on their performances.

I used to consider myself a super fan. Voracious reader of everything in print related to Star Wars. Computer games. Dark horse comics. Prequel movies. Studying a bunch of made up planets and races. Approaching nerd level territory for sure. Not trying to out-nerd the hardcore Star Wars community on this board, but I consider my experience with the Star Wars franchise to have been devoted for a time.

Once the EU was created and everything was dismissed as non-canon, I gave up being obsessed and learned the hard lesson that it was really all about Star Wars: The Search for More Money.

Fast forward to now, I've never had any interest in watching SW cartoons. Haven't watched Boba Fett or anything other than first episode 1 of Mandalorian. kenobi was a fail but good to see EM back as Obi Wan, and the Vader stuff was pretty good too.

The new world of SW just doesn't appeal to me. Flooding the entertainment world with poor content is the business Disney wants to be in but I am no longer their target demographic. Crap characters meant to check boxes, terrible storytelling in the sequels and Obi Wan make this franchise lose more credibility. Andor looks interesting but doubt I'll give it the time. Rogue One was about the best thing to have come out of Disney SW.

TLDR: too much junk content for various reasons is a major turn off for someone who used to dig SW a lot

I've seen every movie in the theater. I took my kids when they were old enough. My daughter drove home from college just so we could see the Rise of Skywalker together like old times.

Not anymore. I am done. All the woke crap has turned me off. I refuse to get Disney+. Kathleen Kennedy should be taken out and shot.

After seven years, literally the only thing I can point to as being "woke" in the entire Kennedy run is Rey as a Mary Sue. Nothing else stands out, save for a split-second kiss between two women in ROTS. Kennedy should no doubt give up the reigns, but for a lack of a game plan, vision, and consistency, not because she's "woke."

I don't like the word woke personally, but I don't think Deborah Chow deserved the position she had for Kenobi. It was probably the most important project Disney + could take on from a fan perspective, and that is the product they found to be acceptable? It is mind numbing.

I want to believe it is a DEI decision and not just shear incompetence. But, I guess given the movies that were directed by white males, it is probably shear incompetence at the very top more than anything.

Are you kidding me?

They let a stormtrooper be black.

They let a woman drive a speeder, c'mon, she'll wreck that thing in a second!

They let an ASIAN woman drive a speeder, c'mon, that thing is probably on fire!

They put a woman in charge of the military. GROSS

Snoke and Kylo are clearly gay on each other. BLEAH, get that noise out of here, and take your rainbow Super Star Destroyer with you. Nobody walks around in a gold lamee robe outside of Liberace.

In another life, General Hux spends all day frolicking with a bunch of talking, clothes-wearing rabbits. It's the First Order, not the Furry Order, you weirdo.

Benecio del Toro's character has a speech impediment and we're all supposed to act like we can undrstand what he's saying. Get some help guy! Use your health insurance!

BB8 and D-O are doing god knows what in the cargo hold and they're not even the same SPECIES

Luke Skywalker breast feeds that fat dinosaur on Ach-To. USE A COVER UP, HIPPIE

They turn Yoda into a eco-terrorist who burns down trees and LAUGHS about it.

Rey uses her hands to heal the "giant snake" and make it whole again. Yeah, real thinly veiled metaphor there, guys. The giant snake is so angry and mean, only a woman can make it better!

They take the Tusken Terrorists and make them cute and lovable and give one a dog. SOME OF US STILL REMEMBER THE MASSACRE AT FORT TUSKEN, SON! #SHMILIVESMATTER

They let a cripple be in charge of Crimson Dawn. Whatever, Maul, go back to your wheelchair.

Chewbacca eats people and we all yuk it up and let him be around civilized people. Take that psycho to the pound.

Mando takes his helmet off and gets banished from his own people. Yeah, it's called FASHION, ladies, if you've got it, FLAUNT IT.

I never felt like Deborah Chow got that job because she was a woman. She had directed "good" episodes of The Mandalorian, along with a other notable TV, and was already incredibly familiar with the Volume. So Lucasfilm felt comfortable with her more than anything. They trusted her. The problem is, the series needed a *film* director with vision, not a hired-hand TV director who knew the Volume. If anything, it's easier to teach a visionary to use the Volume than it is to teach a generic TV director to have vision.

Or, because it's Obi-Wan Kenobi, just shoot that sh*t ON LOCATION. That was the main mistake they made, and not going with someone who could do that.

Either way, I don't at all think it was a woman thing, I genuinely think they simply felt a familiarity with her, knew that she knew the system, etc. It was just yet another bone-headed decision.

I can buy that. I'm mostly frustrated that it should have been treated with so much more importance, and it wasn't. Seems like the decision-making was budgetary in nature. I am a realist, so I understand... just sucks.

Agreed. But when they're not making any movies currently, why Obi-Wan wasn't given movie-level bells and whistles is beyond me. Seems like the one character/franchise where budget shouldn't have been as much of a concern.

Marketing isn't the issue IMO. It's the content pipeline that has diluted the source material.
