Alien 3 remains one of the most disappointing films I've ever seen. Not only for the character choices, but for this:

Cannot agree more with Yoda regarding that Alien 3 trailer. I legitimately walked out of the theater that I saw that trailer thinking that was the best thing I'd seen over the past 2.5 hours that day. The movie I'd just seen was Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Alien 3 - seek out the director's cut of the film. It is not magically the movie that the trailer promised, but it is by far the best version of the movie. Since you have not seen it, I won't spoil anything that happens. This movie is beautifully shot and has some good sequences, but overall was just such a massive disappointment.

Alien Resurrection - I reading a blurb in some entertainment magazine or some such publication in the late 80s talking about movies in development. This was after Aliens, so maybe around 1988 or so. The blurb spoke of two new Alien movies, one being Alien 3, and the other titled Alien 4. The blurb gave a general plot description. I had thought the description for 4 sounded awful. Flash forward about a decade, that fourth movie finally came out. And while it had some neat sequences, it was exactly what I'd thought it would be. Awful.

Alien Versus Predator - in the late 80s, there was a series of comic books that pitted the aliens against the predators. One of the few comics I actually read over the course of my life. There are people who will say this is an abomination, a truly bad movie, what-have-you, but I disagree. This was one of the most fun movies I've seen. If you've seen the original King Kong Versus Godzilla and enjoyed it for what it was, this is pretty similar in terms of just sit back and watch it. Don't expect anything momentous to come out of it. Underrated.

Alien Versus Predator Requiem - I've seen this twice, hated it both times. I found nothing redeeming about this one.

Prometheus - Ridley Scott's return to this franchise disappointed a lot of folks. This one really has very little to do with Alien per se, although it does focus a lot on the engineers (seen in the derelict spaceship in the first film). It features a lot of bland and downright stupid characters that frankly deserve their fates for being so stupid. It also features one of the most evil characters I've ever seen in a film. There is a lot to like about this one. Cinematography is top notch. Fassbender is nails. Underrated.

Alien Covenant - a continuation of sorts of Prometheus, but with more Alien. I loved the opening to this with Weyland and his android David (Fassbender). But this is another film with some dumbasses running around doing stupid things. I actually enjoyed this one for what it was, although the alien action felt as if it was a bit premature for where I think Scott is going with this series of prequels (there was a lot of backlash over Prometheus not having aliens as we have come to know, so I believe what we see in this was a response to that backlash). Underrated.

My ranking of these movies:

Alien
Aliens
Prometheus
Alien Covenant
Alien Versus Predator
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
Alien Versus Predator Requiem

Spoiler:

If you have a daughter, don't watch the autopsy scene in Alien 3.

Dude….thank you!

It's no masterpiece but when this film is good….it's VERY good.

Don't want to spoil anything but let's just say there's some "character interactions" and the way these characters communicate and do things…..from that point on its friekin awesome!!!!

Really liked Prometheus. I had no idea it was an Alien prequel going into it, so your perspective might be different.

I actually like Aliens more than Allen. Both great movies.

I enjoyed Prometheus. Perhaps a little disappointed but maybe because of the anticipation. Haven't seen it in a while so I might give it another watch soon to see how I like it now.

I remember making a conscious decision to watch the other alien movies (named sequels) the Prometheus movies were good for what they were

I honestly don't remember anything about them aside from a basketball game.

The thing about Prometheus and Covenant is that they're almost really good movies. They have some awe-inspiring scenery, some great acting, they're shot well, etc. Everything you want in a movie.

They just don't quite get there. The characters make some absolutely baffling decisions there's a few characters that are just annoying when they're on screen, and there's some odd scenes that just feel off, etc.

That's opposed to say, Alien Vs Predator, which at no point tries to be a truly good movie and is all the better for it. Call is the "Fast & The Furious" effect if you want, but there's something about a movie that's in on the bit and isn't trying too hard. (Note: AVP: Requiem somehow messed this formula up.)

But as a result, the overall experience of watching Alien vs Predator, for me, was better than the experience of watching Prometheus and Covenant. The latter are objectively better movies, but they're so close to being really good that they're annoying.

This. Is it thought provoking and brilliant? no. Is it fun? Yep.

Is Covenant the one where the couple is screwing in the shower after most of their friends have been killed (which they know)?

If so, that thing went full Friday the 13th, but even more dumbass. At least the teens screwing didn't know their friends were dead yet

Yes. They did not know there was a critter on board the ship, and they were blasting music so did not hear calls from the other crew.

Nothing makes me hornier than knowing 75% of my friends have just been killed [/Covenant couple]

Alien resurrection stinks, one of the worst movies I've paid to see.

6.2 on IMDB…no way in hell.

Movie is a total ridiculous mess.
