Eddie Van Halen in Michael Jackson's "Beat It".

Everyone knows that.

But little known fact that is Dallas related.... only one time was it played LIVE with Eddie VH doing the solo and I WAS THERE!!!!

1984 on the Jackson's Victory tour they had 3 shows at old Texas Stadium on July 13, 14, and 15.

VH was in town for 3 shows on July 14, 15, and 16 at Reunion Arena. They had played Houston July 10,11,12 but had the 13th off and arrived in Dallas a day ahead of those shows.

Well unknown to everyone they arranged for Eddie to come to the first show and play it live for the only time on July 13. And I was at that show as well as VH on the 15th.

Starts at about 1:16 on this poor quality video.

More than just that too.

He was on at least 4 albums doing backing vocals on various tracks over the years

Katy Lied I1975), The Royal Scam (1976), Aja (1977) and Gaucho (1980).

speaking of Steely Dan another guy who sang background vocals for them on a lot of tracks is Timothy B Scmit of Poco and later Eagles fame.

He also has sung background on several other artists hits:

Bob Seger's "Fire Lake"
Boz Scaggs' "Look What You've Done to Me" (on the version with Don Henley and Glenn Frey)
Don Felder's "Heavy Metal (Takin' a Ride)" (with Henley)
Crosby, Stills and Nash's "Southern Cross" and "Wasted on the Way"
Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry" and "You Don't Know Me at All".
Richard Marx "Don't Mean Nothing"
Toto "I Won't Hold You Back" and "Africa"

to name a few.

Phil Collins played drums on "Woman in Chains" by Tears for Fears. He doesn't play the entire song, but it's pretty easy to tell where he comes in:

That video is an absolute perfect time capsule of pop culture in the 80's. Holy crap. Amazing.
It's like my childhood just reached through time and grabbed me. All that's missing is Reagan, Mr. T, and the Transformers.

Everyone on this thread knows it but you can rock Beatles fans mind by telling them Clapton played lead on "While my guitar gently weeps". I've had them absolutely refuse to believe it until confronted with proof

Robert Fripp (and Tony Levin, Brian Eno, and Phil Collins) played on Daryl Hall's first solo album, Sacred Songs. Fripp also produced it. Learned that on Live From Daryl's House.

I'm assuming that since this hasn't been added yet it is because everyone does know this, but it needs to
be on here just for the sake of completeness....Clapton played the guitar on the Beatles legendary track, "While my Guitar Gently Weeps"

Everyone knows Sting's vocal part on Dire Straits "Money For Nothing".

But he also sang background vocals for

PHIL COLLINS "Long, Long Way to Go" / "Take Me Home" (1985) ...
ARCADIA "The Promise" (1985) ...
ZIGGY MARLEY "One World (Not Three)" (recorded 1988, released 1995) ...
SHERYL CROW "Always on Your Side" (2007)

He also did several songs early in the Police days singing lead vocals for a German violinist/producer named Eberhard Schoener who was bigtime into synthesizer arrangements then. Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland also contributed to those albums in 1977/78. In 1981 a compilation of the tracks they were on was released as "Eberhard Schoener with Sting, Andy Summers & Stewart Copeland of The Police" I was such a Police fan I had that album on vinyl and still have it on Apple Music.
