Gabler is a good dude and a family friend. We will be at his post show party in the woodlands in a couple days with him.

ALIGABLER.

I love survivor. What a weird show this is turning into.

Eff. Think they need to start doing fire at 5? Seems like the way to win now is to outlast the actual threats.
Everything has to go exactly right to pull off what they pulled off though and rarely does it ever go that way. Karla had a shot to win immunity at 5 and had that happened then it's guaranteed either she or Jesse make it to the final 3 and whichever one does wins the game. They were very fortunate that Karla didn't win there and that Jesse lost fire making. They did what they needed to do to eliminate the threats and that is in itself a big move IMO so credit where it was due.

After the Cody boot it was so obvious that Jesse was getting the winners edit that I was thinking there's no way he actually wins the thing. They were pumping him up in the edit nearly the whole season. Would have almost been anticlimactic had he won ha.

I was assuming Cassidy would win, which to me would have been super boring. I'm still very surprised it was Gabler. Holy cow.

Cassidy didn't have the best presentation to the jury. She tried to play the girl power angle, and it didn't work, and the jury caught her on something toward the end.

Gabler might not be the best winner ever, but he is the gold standard of how the game can be played going forward. Seeing Ryan's reaction to his announcement to donate the money to vets was instant classic status not just for Survivor but for TV history.

I really did enjoy how Gabler and Owen were fighting over who got to make fire against Jesse. That has to be a Survivor first.

I think making fire at four might need to be retired for a bit. It seems like making fire at the end has too much sway on the jury (though the two previous winners were saved by the final immunity winner).

Someone recently won because they flat out demanded they be put in that position.

That one guy sacrificed immunity at 4 do he could eliminate the really popular TV reporter.

Cass' downfall was not making a single move the entire game. She rode James and Karla's coat tails and then won immunity when her neck was on the line. So when she tried the claim that move as her big move both Cody and Jesse shot her down saying that it was actually our decision to keep you here. Gabler on the other hand made a great pitch to the jury outlining his entire game which resulted in him winning over the jury at final tribal and winning the game.

Aside from naming his strategy change as the Alligabler...the fact that Gabler apparently had a separate alliance with almost everyone on the jury.. .was either crazy or brilliant... but it worked.

He convinced the jury that there was method to the madness. That's a tough sell.

I wonder if the jury communicates more now than back in the day. Seems like they vote more as a collective. I could be way wrong.

Karla definitely said that the jury made a collective check list and whoever checked the most boxes would win.

When it got to the final three I thought Gabler was the obvious pick even before final tribal. He's the only one of the three who did ANYTHING strategy wise that he could hang his hat on. Killing it in fire making didn't hurt either.

I've only watched about a third of the seasons, but Gabler's final jury presentation and answers were some of the best that I can remember, especially compared to Cassidy (who screwed the pooch) and Owen (who wasn't even trying to win). Gabler did a great job of explaining his game and showing how you can win playing an honest game. Cassidy probably played a similar game but did a terrible job of explaining it, and the "biggest move" answer sunk her.

That's neat. We've been watching Survivor since season 2 and think this has easily been one of the best of them all. We were delighted and impressed that Gabler won. Congrats and much respect to him.

It's impossible to know everything that was said, but Cassidy really should have focused on how everyone that came for her was almost immediately voted out.

Also, and I'm not someone who would typically care about this sort of thing, it was nice to not get lectured about societal issues this season.

Cassidy pulled a Russell Hanz.

I think it would have paid for her to be a little more humble at Final Tribal Council.
