Looks like it's time to dust off that clip on lip ring!
I mean... love Blink, but a horrible live band.
Well this was pretty awesome when I was 16 or 17...
There is just something about this, that I can't quite put my finger in
I had a friend back in 9th grade who had the CD The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show. That was a fantastic live album and, to this day, has some of my favorite performances of songs from Enema of the State and before. Used to borrow it all the time on the bus ride to school until I was finally able to copy it.
When I finally got to see them live, they sounded nothing like that album. I started to think that live album was staged, they sounded so different.

Big fan of Cheshire Cat, Enema of the State, Dude Ranch. Tom taught me to play guitar.
Kind of lost track of them after Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.

I've seen them 3 times, the first reunion tour, the second reunion tour, and then once with Alkaline trio guy. The only bad performance I've ever been to was the last one with the Alkaline Trio guy.
First time I ever saw them, there was a guy holding a sign that said HEY BABY DICKS PLAY JOSIE. They called it out and Tom said, "is he saying Hey baby dicks, play Josie? Or Hey, Baby dicks play Josie."
Mark responded, "Yeah, that's why punctuation and capitalization are important, guys. It's the difference between helping your Uncle Jack, off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse."

Enema of the State is one of my most listened to albums ever. Had that on repeat on my Discman all throughout sixth grade, along with Bloodhound Gang's Hooray For Boobies and Limp Bizkit's Significant Other.

They suck live but the energy and showmanship is very high.

Saw them on tour with Green Day. They were a fun show live, but they can't hold a candle to Green Day in front of an audience. One thing from that show that bothered teenaged me was the number of girls who thought "All the Small Things" was a serious ballad. Made me realize just how dense some people are.

I've seen Blink twice, and they were fine. Didn't blow me away, though. Granted, I didn't see them for the first time until after their self-titled album tour. They may have been better during their Enema of the State or Pop Disaster tours.
And I am not antagonistic towards Blink; I love them. The first album I ever bought with my own money was Take Off Your Pants and Jacket when I was in 9th grade.
Their live music isn't the best sounding but it's a great show, imo.

I believe this weekend is the first iteration and its a 1 day festival. I know some people going, but hopes aren't all that high. Seems to be too many bands in too small a window to do it well.bigcat22 said:

I saw 311 and the Offspring 3-4 years ago, and it was an incredible case study on what hard drugs for 20 years vs just weed will do on your body. The Offspring guys all look 25 years older than the 311 guys. And 311 put on a way better show.

Are you referring to their technical ability and instrumental proficiency? Are we simply looking at the sheer number of finger tapping, sweeps, fast solos, giant drum solos and crazy slap bass? Then yeah, that's not what punk rock is.
But that's not what you said. You said punk bands "suck" live. I would argue that whether or not a punk band sucks live has more to do with how well they do what they're supposed to do. Are they extremely pitchy? Are they sloppy and off time? Then yes, they suck live. If they remain relatively on key and are extremely tight while performing, then I would say they do not suck.
I don't watch a comedy movie and then say it sucks because it didn't tug at me in an emotional way, or because I didn't get an oscar worthy performance from the actors.
