But we almost beat Bama!

One of the lamest movies I've ever seen. I'd rather watch Green Lantern than this again.

The third act is absolutely horrendous, even by DC standards.

One nice thing I'll say is Dr. Fate was cool. I'd have much rather just watched an origin/solo story about him.

but naturally, he's the one good thing about this movie, and they killed him. Par for the DC course

Between Sex Panther's post and this tweet, I kind of want to see it now.

You'll be disappointed. It's neither great nor terrible but people love to exaggerate in their reviews to get the clicks.

We're obviously talking opinions here, but Fennessey is one of the straightest shooters around. He's highly respected, and definitely not exaggerating for clicks. So at least some people genuinely believe this movie is that bad.

It's really bad, but it's not worth seeing from a "so bad - it's good" perspective. The biggest reason being it's just boring. It's got every trope and cliche you can imagine - and horrible writing... but take something like Aquaman - which is admittedly really dumb... that movie was at least fun and had humor.

Let's take arguably the most charismatic guy on the planet... and completely strip him of all of it. The Rock has absolutely zero personality in this. And guess what? Superheroes who are so powerful that they're invincible... are still boring as hell.

And really glad the director watched 300 before this and decided saturated color palettes, and super slo-mo - then super fast - action scenes needed a comeback.

The slo-mo was definitely overdone, that was probably my biggest complaint.

Man, even that was a pretty big letdown. Maybe if I hadn't known about it before, but that's what got me to the theater... and after, I was like - "oh... that's it?"


Just a lame theater experience all around

I listened to that podcast while I was walking my dog and it sounds like the movie is exactly what I thought it was, unremarkable/pointless. I think they did a great job at explaining why The Rock basically can't be Schwarzenegger or Cruise, he doesn't really work with any good filmmakers. He's a great movie star, but he doesn't make great movies, they're almost all throw away films you can watch once if you're bored but never really come back to them. I think that's a little tragic because he's got the chops to be a lot more if he was only willing to get out of his comfort zone, he's too formulaic for his own good.

Having not seen the film, nor having any plans to, I thought it would have been cool if they marketed him as an anti-hero but have the result be that he's going to be Thanos for the DCEU. That would be a change of pace, and he was great as a heel in the WWE. He could have totally leaned into that, he'd have to be willing to lose in the end but Black Adam as a straight up super villain origin story could have been a nice change of pace. But it would be cool if at the penultimate point of the movie he was given a choice, and he becomes the bad guy. Playing a god-like superhero only goes so far, making him the bad guy would have been more compelling.

I just got to the part where Sean talks about having to sit next to the Joker at his Black Adam screening and I was cracking up so much. Holy crap. I was at the exact same Alamo Draft House the night before, my first time at that theater, and the whole place had such a weird vibe. It's in the fourth floor of a building in downtown LA, is so weirdly laid out, and feels like a creepy, claustrophobic maze or something. Something about it was just really disorienting. On top of that, I couldn't imagine having to sit next to some random creep dressed as the Joker, cackling the entire time during what sounds like one of the worst superhero movies ever.

Found it. I like the slightly brighter suit, but like SP said, that was pretty underwhelming.

Saw this today. Quick thoughts:
Intro backstory narration was lame, only one small step up from a text crawl. Superhero roster intro was also horrible. Done to death and done badly here. Movie got a lot more enjoyable after that. Liked the fact that the Justice Society was despised by the locals for ignoring them. Liked Adam's gray morality, though they were pretty heavy-handed about him killing people and not being a hero. I didn't hate the throwaway villain. Cheering scene at the end was dumb. Cavill back as Superman is great.

So aside from the horribly overdone and horribly executed tropes thrown in for "reasons", the movie was good.

Saw it last night, super boring.
