Less than a year later and Disney is bending us over the barrel again.
Closing in on doubling the price within a year.
Annoying considering the screwing around they did with cable providers for their bundle.
And this is a good example why Disney/ESPN and other providers need to strongly consider staying within some type of cable bundle. When Disney/ESPN used to raise prices and cable/sat tried to refuse or negotiate, those channels went dark and people were mad at the cable/sat companies and their customer service departments had to deal with trying to retain them. Now, going direct to consumer means the consumer is going to easily cancel the service (for a while) and be frustrated with the company, not the deliverer of the content.
Hiding behind a cable bundle reduces that churn as people don't realize how much they are paying for just ESPN/Disney, and they definitely aren't going to have the customer service folks handle frustrated customers.
I'm not sure it will be a real good move for ESPN to be a stand alone service like Iger is proclaiming it will be.
