Not sure if this has been discussed.. but so many movies from my childhood seem innocent enough, but we have a term in our house:
'80s PG'
A lot has changed. PG movies from the 80s have F-bombs in them (Top Gun), and other phrases you might not want your 4-8 year old hearing/saying.
Or A movie like gremlins, you get Phoebe Cates talking about when she found out Santa wasn't real. My wife knows the movie well and has always fast forwarded that part.
Or a movie like Big, where Tom Hanks is grabbing/rubbing Elizabeth Perkins' bra/breast with her shirt off.
It's best that parents watch these first, then decide if your early grade school kid is ready, or be ready to fast forward.
We were watching top gun this weekend.. man not just the F bomb, but probably 6-8 sh*ts, some god damn-its, a '********'... and when take my breath away started and Cruise ends up at the girls house, we didn't even take a chance (we both hadn't seen it in forever) we hit FF lol.
All acceptable for 80's PG!

Excellent point. We discovered this with Sixteen Candles. Had no idea that a PG then had a top less girl shower scene in it. We had only seen the TV version in bits and pieces before renting it once.

Was just about to add Where the Red Fern grows.
And Fox and the Hound to keep the hunting theme. "I'm a hound dog!"
These two were big in my house bc of timing and my kids ages. Cars and Tangled
