this is my thread and I will have my own opinions without ridicule. Thank you.

Ahh, so now some people think they own a thread they start. That explains a lot of angry posters I've encountered. Weird, but okay.

The one old Western our kids liked (about middle school age) was "The Cowboys". I only mention it because it's such an outlier. I doubt anyone else would think to mention this one.

The Black Stallion
Swiss Family Robinson
American Tail

Anyone seen some movie I can't think of the name of about a guy who shrinks himself in a machine and flys it around in somebody's body?

I hate that a lot of people's first introduction to Willow is the Disney+ series. I remember the movie being so much better. Thought maybe it was nostalgia so I watched it again and maybe I'm just naive but I still think it's pretty good.

Fantastic Voyage came out in the 60s while Innerspce with Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan came out in 87.

Not sure if this has been discussed.. but so many movies from my childhood seem innocent enough, but we have a term in our house:
'80s PG'

A lot has changed. PG movies from the 80s have F-bombs in them (Top Gun), and other phrases you might not want your 4-8 year old hearing/saying.

Or A movie like gremlins, you get Phoebe Cates talking about when she found out Santa wasn't real. My wife knows the movie well and has always fast forwarded that part.

Or a movie like Big, where Tom Hanks is grabbing/rubbing Elizabeth Perkins' bra/breast with her shirt off.

It's best that parents watch these first, then decide if your early grade school kid is ready, or be ready to fast forward.

We were watching top gun this weekend.. man not just the F bomb, but probably 6-8 sh*ts, some god damn-its, a '********'... and when take my breath away started and Cruise ends up at the girls house, we didn't even take a chance (we both hadn't seen it in forever) we hit FF lol.
All acceptable for 80's PG!

But I don't know that the 6 year old mind really understands/comprehends that.

My kids have seen all the BttF movies several times, that has never alerted me lol.

Sandlot has that 'rapey' scene too.

I regret trifling with married women. I'm thoroughly ashamed at cheating at cards. I deplore my occasional departures from the truth. Forgive me for taking your name in vain, my Saturday drunkenness, my Sunday sloth. Above all, forgive me for the men I've killed in anger...and those I am about to.

Watched that with our son during Christmas break. Don't know how well you remember it but after the kid gets stung by the bees the very next scene is a cop talking to Veda's dad. You can't hear what they're talking about but my son, who seemed like he'd barely been paying attention (it's no Avengers), turns and asks horrified, "Did he die?" Watched a few more second and then, "Is he dead!?"

Then he ran to sit next to us and said, "This is a sad movie." and didn't take his eyes off the screen the rest of the movie. Sure he saw Iron Man die and who knows who else, but I'm pretty sure that's the first time he saw a realistic character die. Pretty emotional.

We went to see Star Trek: The Motion Picture in the one theater (at the time) in my hometown.

My brother had gotten his license recently and let him drive me and a cousin and some friends to the movie. After all, it was Rated G!

When we got home, my parents asked how the movie was and my brother said "It was rated G and had 5 hells, 3 damns, and 1 dammit".

Clash of the Titans a couple years later had boobs.

One of my favorite lines is from that movie.

Lonnie Ritter "Kids today are amazing. I played winter ball down in Venezuela and every one of them spoke Spanish"

Lou Collins with the blank stare "They speak Spanish in Venezuela"

Lonnie Ritter "I know that's my point"

I watched Heavyweights based on some posts. I found it pretty bad. Very little humor, Ben Stiller was good but I'm not sure what the message was.
