Just saw this announced earlier today that Universal Studios is planning to build a new Theme park and hotel/resort in Frisco, TX at Panther and Dallas North Tollway on the west side. It is part of the master-planned PGA headquarters development that in that same area.

It looks like it's a new/different kind of concept, targeted more at families, but pretty amazing news/development for Texans.

How does Frisco have room with a lot of stuff moving there these past years?

Traffic is already a disaster in the area (especially on 380) and this is going to only make it worse. Hope they have a plan to improve traffic conditions..

A park for families with younger kids. Looks like I might get to dodge this bullet, my kids will be too old for this one by the time it opens.

No timeline announced but even if they started turning dirt over tomorrow it would be a minimum 3-5 years before it opens.

LMAO. We just did Disney Orlando at Christmas and our kids, at 17 and 14, were already really on the bubble. My wife declared we, as a family, were now officially done with them parks forever (until grandkids I guess/hope). We all cheered.

I can't even imagine what a full scale theme park for "little" kids would be like. Well, I guess I can. I wanted to kill myself at Legoland.

Hopefully, if anything, it will improve Six Flags (if you are into theme parks anyway). Disney and Universal are in a one-up battle in Orlando and typically, when there is competition, the consumer wins.

We were at Disney this summer. The number of times I had to stop myself from just screaming was significant. Too crowded, too hot, too expensive, too many morbidly obese people. I counted the minutes until we got back to the hotel each day so we could get to the pool and just drink.

We did Disneyland when the kids were 5 & 7 and Universal Orlando when they were 9 & 11 and we were done with amusement parks.

I can't fathom how people go on repeat trips to those parks especially without kids.

I still have a good time at Disney (California though, not Orlando) and Sea World. I have zero desire to go to Universal Orlando, Legoland, Six Flags or any of the others. I will stay far, far away from this one.

These are why I actually prefer California. Can't do anything about the cost, but the weather is always good, it's a little less crowded and way less fat people.

The only way to do Orlando parks is to go after school starts.
Going in the middle of summer break just seems like a waste of money

Traffic will be an absolute nightmare. Quality of life just too a nose dive for Frisco, Colony, Plano, Mckinney residents.

Nostalgia. As the kids are getting older my wife gets more and more emotional about them moving on so we attempt to recreate the past. Is what it is. But I am confident this was the last time.

the fatasses on the scooter things are the biggest cluster in the parks. They also get treated like people with real disabilities and get to cut. After a day or two of that it's rather annoying to watch.

I second the idea that doing those theme parks without kids seems tough, especially repeat visits. Would not ever do, however, the younger versions of ourselves did really enjoy hitting major roller coasters, so there was that. I wouldn't do that know because me riding roller coasters with the kids is now a feat of endurance, not pleasure.

However, there are a lot of people that wonder why folks want to do repeat visits in Kyle Field when the temperature is much higher than the winning percentage.

Summer of '25 is what I saw yesterday. All rides are for 10 and younger so no coasters which probably speeds up the build.

Yes, I find myself having a Bill Burr level meltdown after about 2 hours of watching this crap.

Meh. WIfe and I enjoy WDW and UV in FL and we don't have kids. We go during off times and pay whatever it takes to avoid lines as much as possible. I still love coasters but she won't ride anything with an elevation change of more than 1 foot.

As we've gotten older it is fun to just look at the attention to detail everywhere and not be in a mad frenzy to get to the next ride. I see how grandparents are often content to just sit on a bench and watch.

All that said, more annoying than scooters are the parents with strollers the size of an RV that they use as battering rams with their kids that are old enough to get jobs being pushed around. When I see the age of so many of hte kids in strollers I realize why the US becomes a bigger country of *****es with each generation.

Hearing the park will be targeted for 10 and under is a downer. I think the park will be about the size of Magic Kingdom, which is pretty big for all under 10. Maybe that's just phase 1, and future phases will add real rides.

Also, with Disney owning pretty much every major franchise now, what themes will Universal have that kids will want? Unless they are planning on including Harry Potter World or Nintendo World, I just don't see this being that popular.

Don't hate fun at all. We've done many Disney and Universal trips over the years with our kids, family, and other couples and had a blast. But..............

The sweet spot is when the kids are old enough that the trip is devoid of diapers and strollers but they're still young enough to be really excited about it. We're past that.

The overall quality just seems to be lacking as compared to what it was a decade ago, even five years ago, but the prices are record high. But, that seems to be norm with just about everything in the covid/post covid world.

Things just kept breaking down. Rides, the gondola, etc.

The parks seem over booked and under staffed. The lines were just horrendous.

To be fair, and having nothing to do with Disney, it didn't help that we arrived on the day a record cold front hit Florida and then had to deal with the Southwest debacle getting home.

The parks being ****ed up is all Chapek's doing. He was trying to increase profits knowing people would pay more for a lesser product because it's Disney. It's a big reason Iger stepped back in and Chapek was forced out, along with some others

Chapek didn't understand that the parks were a huge part of the brand, not a cash cow. Walt didn't create the parks to nickel and dime the **** out of people. They're supposed to be magical and an experience, which is the reason so much of the inner workings are hidden from view and the staff are all cast members. Chapek completely lost sight of that, and I think that and the political posturing really damaged the Disney brand as a whole, which I would have thought impossible a couple of years ago.
