Red Rising Series
First few books were 1 character driven, and then all of the sudden it's about galactic civil war.
I just reread the original trilogy and start 4/5. I'm in the middle of 5 now and kind of wish I just left it with the perfect ending of the first trilogy.
It's good but I don't like the different viewpoints and I don't like trudging through all of the sociopolitical issues that the rebellion created. 5th book is also just darker and more depressing than any of the other books.
I made the decision halfway through book 4 that the second trilogy had no chance to match the original. Never finished it and probably won't attempt to.
I guess I'm in the minority in that I loved that Brown expanded the universe outwards. Maybe he expanded it a bit too far(disagree but understand the argument), so much so that a couple of the main characters become almost cameos in their brief appearances, but I really appreciate that he's going for it and getting into all the sociopolitical/rebellion aspects of it. Unlike other authors that just rehash the same **** book to book. It's not perfect, but he's definitely trying to explain what happens during and after a rebellion and how it's never clean
It's still entertaining as hell IMO

America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.
