Rain Man...but the correct answer is MI Fallout.

I'm gonna be basic and say Top Gun.

When I think of TC, that's the definitive film. Sure MI and others are great, but Top Gun is his definitive film.

My serious answer is Rain Man...but Top Gun, A Few Good Men and Valkyrie are strong candidates as well.

Top Gun: Maverick knocks Jerry Maguire off the top spot. It's the perfect Tom Cruise movie.

Collateral
I think this is Tom's most underrated performance

Probably not his best but definitely deserves a mention, Color of Money. especially if viewed in conjunction with The Hustler.

My personal most rewatchable are the scifi flicks Minority Report and Edge of Tomorrow.

Collateral and Last Samurai showed a serious range that he doesn't get enough credit for.

I thought Top Gun Maverick was fantastic. Top Gun has not stood the test of time for me.

Edge of Tomorrow and Minority Report are great.

Risky Business and All the Right Moves were the first two movies I saw him in.

And then Mission Impossible: Fallout is among the best action movies I've ever seen.

I liked movies like The Color of Money, Rain Man, and Jerry Maguire.

Even though it lacks the action that one would have to consider when considering the best of Cruise.
That said, for the best of Cruise - My vote is: "A Few Good Men"

Not sure if it counts as a Tom Cruise movie but Magnolia is one of my favorite movies of all time

This one is a hard one...

The Last Samurai may be my favorite of all his movies. The fact that it is an epic and one of the slower paced of his movies yet so rewatchable is pretty amazing.

The Last Samurai and Top Gun: Maverick are probably 1a and 1b, for me. Went ahead and did a tier list for Cruise movies, based simply on my enjoyment of the movies. There are so many I still haven't seen, and several I know I really need to see. The last 3 MI movies are fantastic, but I still have to put my S tier just over those on a separate level.

You've never seen A Few Good Men? It's one of my all-time favorites. Fish Drill Team is featured in the opening.

Edge of Tomorrow
Oblivion

Are great for different reasons. Both have strong supporting actors. I can watch over and over.

While A few Good Man is a great movie it's Jack's parts that carry it. And Demi Moore was pretty bad in it.

His role in Taps was memorable. "It's beautiful, man!"

My fav movie he's in is The Outsiders but doesn't really count bc his part is so small.

Yeah... one of those I just kept putting off and never got around to it.

Gave you a blue star for the graphic. If you've never seen Valkyrie and have any interest in history or WW2, do yourself a favor and watch it. Wow. That and A Few Good Men should be required viewing.

There are still too many on your "never seen" list for your tiering to mean anything. Need to fix that and re-tier.

I think Edge of Tomorrow is one of the most re-watchable movies out there.

Lol... i've seen over 65% of his movies; I wouldn't say that's inconsequential.

I tried watching Valkyrie once, and actually found the beginning boring, so didn't keep with it.

And my tier list is just my opinion on the movies I've seen. I'm not making a statement about Tom Cruise movies. Go make your own list.

I just read through the plot synopsis of Magnolia. Holy crap that sounds like an overly melodramatic disaster that was made for no other point than to utterly depress anyone who saw it.

For anyone who was alive in the 90s I don't know how it's even possible to have not seen A Few Good Men. I've seen that and Shawshank probably a dozen times "on accident."

Under the radar, but also one of his best. That and Ferris Bueler's Day Off.

It certainly has a repeat quality to it.
