St. Vincent with Bill Murray was great. Maybe it's not too unknown but I'd never even heard of it before I saw it a few months back.

I think this movie is pretty unknown

Fandango (1985)

One of the best little road trip movies and a coming of age story as well.

Kevin Costner's first real starring role just before Silverado, also has Judd Nelson just before Breakfast Club in a nerdy role here. Suzy Amis is "the girl" you might know her from Titanic as the granddaughter of the older version of Rose. Jason Robards is probably the only other known person in this.

Particularly of interest to Texans as it is set in west Texas Marfa, Alpine and Ft. Davis areas. They visit the infamous set for Giant at one point.

Set in 1971, college students near graduating and facing the draft and Vietnam (from t.u. actually) head out on a last road trip. It is a quest to see "Dom" and they have no plan and no money really. Typical college road trip.

Great small town Texas treats along the way with the locals they meet. One crazy ass pilot and a hysterical parachuting scene. Poignant little moments pop up as friends and real life issues come into play. And for my money one of the best damn wedding scenes in any movie.

I love this movie probably seen it 50 times. Of course I was a sophomore at A&M when it came out so it could mostly be an age thing. But my son loves it too. He has seen it many times and made his college buddies watch it.

Not to mention an awesome soundtrack:

Elton John - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting
Cream - Badge
Carole King - It's Too Late
Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild
Blind Faith - Can't Find My Way Home

Plus several Pat Metheny songs.

The remake... Heavy Water

Watching the trailer, it looks like it is based on the book The Winter Fortress by Neal Bascomb.....it's one of the best books I've read in the last few years

Movies that I think are generally very well liked but still don't get enough love imho....

Donnie Brasco (in the gangster genre , GF and Goodfellas dominate the scene but DB is so so damn good)
Boiler Room
Eastern Promises
Changeling (Eastwood directed, and never gets enough love or mention)
A Perfect World (Another overlook Eastwood/Costner movie)

Eastern Promises got literally everything right until right at the very end. Man, did they fumble the bag with that reveal. Took a 10/10 movie down to 7.

Anyways. My vote would be Can't Hardly Wait. Everyone remembers American Pie, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc. Can't Hardly Wait was funnier and more poignant than all of those late 90's/early 2000's teen movies. Every scene/character was hilarious.

Four Rooms

Basically four short stories each with a different director, two of which were responsible for some of best films of the decade. Each part has a different feel but were very entertaining. Great humor, great cast.

Did basically nothing at the box office but the audience score is 60% higher than critics score.
