Four Rooms

Basically four short stories each with a different director, two of which were responsible for some of best films of the decade. Each part has a different feel but were very entertaining. Great humor, great cast.

Did basically nothing at the box office but the audience score is 60% higher than critics score.
Doesn't Madonna go topless in that movie?

The End of the Tour

I don't remember ever seeing anything about this movie but came across it after it was released to Redbox. I just picked it up on whim because it had Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg. I just remember really enjoying the hell out of this movie.

I don't know anyone else who has seen it.

Very slow paced, and based around the two of them just talking about life. Jesse Eisenberg is a journalist/reporter just getting Jason Segel's character's story. I just really enjoyed both performances and the dialogue. I love dialogue heavy movies and character examination pieces, if done very well.

Bassinger won for best supporting actress. It was big news at the time.

It received a ton of critical praise and nominated for nine Oscars (including Best Picture) but only won two, the aforementioned Kim Basinger and for Best Adapted Screenplay. Titanic won all the other categories which it was nominated. IMO, LA Confidential has stood the test of time far better.

It just doesn't seem to be talked about much in conversations of "best movies of the last 25 years."
Also, if listing favorite Russell Crowe movies it probably isn't one of the first mentioned.

She got topless a lot in Body of Evidence before she got all chiseled and gross -- it was a very good thing.

That was the sweet spot for Madonna: after shaving her pits and before losing so much body fat she looked painful.

Big Trouble in Little China. I assume they didn't spend a lot of money making it. So that's one good thing about it. Also assuming there was no sequel, so there's hopefully another. Might be entertaining with a heavy brain fog the morning after a long night at the shot bar.

I think this movie is pretty unknown

Fandango (1985)

One of the best little road trip movies and a coming of age story as well.

Kevin Costner's first real starring role just before Silverado, also has Judd Nelson just before Breakfast Club in a nerdy role here. Suzy Amis is "the girl" you might know her from Titanic as the granddaughter of the older version of Rose. Jason Robards is probably the only other known person in this.

Particularly of interest to Texans as it is set in west Texas Marfa, Alpine and Ft. Davis areas. They visit the infamous set for Giant at one point.

Set in 1971, college students near graduating and facing the draft and Vietnam (from t.u. actually) head out on a last road trip. It is a quest to see "Dom" and they have no plan and no money really. Typical college road trip.

Great small town Texas treats along the way with the locals they meet. One crazy ass pilot and a hysterical parachuting scene. Poignant little moments pop up as friends and real life issues come into play. And for my money one of the best damn wedding scenes in any movie.

I love this movie probably seen it 50 times. Of course I was a sophomore at A&M when it came out so it could mostly be an age thing. But my son loves it too. He has seen it many times and made his college buddies watch it.

Not to mention an awesome soundtrack:

Elton John - Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting
Cream - Badge
Carole King - It's Too Late
Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild
Blind Faith - Can't Find My Way Home

Plus several Pat Metheny songs.

Fandango is one of my favorites, saw it after me and some friends had made an accidentally epic big bend trip too, so brought it even closer to home. We watch this at least every other year.

For westerns, how about A Big Hand For The Little Lady? Very underrated IMO. Great cast (Henry Fonda, Joann Woodward, Jason Robards, and Burgess Meredith) and loads of fun.
