To Rock's credit, you could have heard a pin drop when he said that abortion was murder, and kept repeating it. I didn't think the bit was funny, but at least he didn't mince words while proclaiming his pro-choice stance.

I was hoping there was going to be an anti-woke aspect to to the show, but it really wasn't. His decision to bring up trans, then praise trans, and talk about how he would accept his dad if his dad became trans, was cringe and not funny.

Bragging about how spoiled his daughter is also wasn't funny.

Overall, had hoped for better.

Everything you didn't find funny I found hilarious, and to be some of his best bits in an otherwise somewhat uneven/been-there-done-that show.

Kardashian bit was hilarious

Beatdown of the Smiths was world class. So much spite he has been holding in. He went off, big time, and it was glorious

The abortion jokes were bad. Just tasteless and there for shock value. He stooped low for that

2.5/5

Almost felt like a cheap ripoff of Bill Burr's abortion joke. Loved seeing him go off on the Smith's, especially Jada. She's one of the least likable people on the planet. Pretty funny overall but just fell kind of flat…and the crowd, surprisingly, didn't seem that into it.

Almost seems like Rock fell victim to his nerves a bit, which I would understand.

Honest question: Why would you think this is even a possibility? Is Rock known for being "anti-woke" (whatever the hell that means)?

Well he went off on it a bit, but he kind of built up expectations by hinting at it and mentioning "selective outrage" early on, and just barely delivered on it.

I realize some people on here are going to disagree, but if you talk to some comics, wokeness is absolutely suffocating their profession. There are bits you could do just 5 years that you can't do now. Hell, there are comedy movies made in the last decade that you couldn't do now…at least not in the same way.

Zero way Eastbound and Down or Vice Principals could be made in the same way, and that is just off the top of my head.

Comedians seem to hate wokeness more than any other group or profession. Understandably so.

Honest question…do you really not know what "anti-woke" means? Check out some of Dave Chappelle or Bill Burr's recent stuff.

I don't watch much stand up comedy anymore but I did watch a little of this. The whole "woke" thing is stupid to me. Once people start throwing that word around (same with "cancel culture") I have a pretty damn good idea where they are coming from and I tune them out. Chappelle seems to be able to say whatever he wants with minimal backlash. Maybe it's because he's intelligent and funny. I think the whole "this could never be made today" comments are a bit tired & overdone.

Lol ok…tell me you're woke without telling me you're woke. Most reasonable people think it's a cancer on our society. I am glad people keep pushing it though because it's finally pushing a lot of people towards the right side of the political spectrum. I hope y'all keep doubling down on it personally.

I don't know if "minimal" is the right word choice there.

Chappelle survived significant protests against him in 2021 because he is very popular and very rich. Now imagine a comedian without his standing and bank account going through the same thing.

In this same live show I saw in San Antonio Rock went off on the January 6 riot and bagged on Trump quite a bit more than he did on the Netflix show but he also bagged on some of the dumber aspects of work culture and made fun of President Magoo some.

Decent special but not his best for sure.

I probably watch his other specials once a year, and laugh every time, this one I may never watch again.

I'm a huge Chris Rock fan but damn that was hard to watch. Not very funny or entertaining, a few chuckles, no laugh out loud moments. Even the Will Smith part wasn't very funny.

It felt like he was trying too hard to be funny and edgy and it just didn't work. I struggled to get through the entire thing.

Boring and unoriginal from content to costume. They rolled out a kings carpet for him and he delivered a C set

It felt like to me this was Rock's attempt to be Chappelle (and not quite getting there). Did still have some good genuine moments, though. Rate it a C.

That set would have been 30 minutes long if Rock stopped repeating his lines.

At best, he's a poor man's Eddie Murphy, and I'm being generous.

surprisingly anti-woke and pretty conservative in alot of his points

very funny at times

worst take on this board in months

Roseanne Barr
Jeremy Piven
Chris Noth
JK Rowling

any episode of Seinfeld where he is talking about breaking up with "big hands" girls, being intimate with gymnasts, the anti-semite episode.

you are living under a rock if you think there is no such thing as woke culture- even Hollywood movie stars and comedians from the left side of politics rail against it!

Here is the real reason.

I'm assuming that most if not all of those comedians are Democrats........but there is a certain arrogance among far left Liberals that imply that it is okay for black comedians to make fun of White people from Middle America that are Trump Voters.....

but White people from the Coasts and Hollywood that are super Liberal, Gay, or Trans.....these people are protected and off limits.

The Chappelle's and Chris Rock's of the world have the money and influence to say what they want and rail against "Woke" Culture.....but a lower level comedian might not.

I think a lot of you are downgrading Rock's performance because its not quite as good as Chappelle's last few Netflix specials.

To each his own. Comedy hits people in a different way. What some people find funny, others will take offense and not find humorous.

I love Seinfeld. Never really cared for Louis CK....but I know tons of people that love Louis CK, and that never ever found Seinfeld funny.

Rock has always been my favorite comedian, so my OP was a bit biased probably.
Bring the Pain to me was the best stand up special I have seen. This wasn't that, but still better than 90 percent of the garbage out there. The reason I like him is because even when I disagree with him, his points come from an intelligent place, almost always. Sometimes they are over hyped, purposely over the top etc…but always from an interesting POV. And he's not afraid to say things that might offend people.

I did have my first child in 2021, so some things are better. But what has improved since 2019 for the average American? Sh** hurts for most people. i do acknowledge that an awful lot of this is due to the virus leaked from Wuhan lab in China, and so many states overreacting to it with crushing measures.

seriously? you can't connect the dots? i'm guessing you use your 14MP cell phone camera to take pictures of the kid, not old technology. its one example of many advances in technology, despite the fact that you say you can't thing of anything that is better now.

its a dumb argument, i know. but pointing out how ridiculous your statement was on the surface.

But I had this technology during the "MAGA years" that I was referring to. Not like I couldn't send my parents amazing quality images in 2019.

I am not a "MAGA guy"...but was responding to another poster who threw that out as an insult because they didn't like that I, and many many comedians, think the woke-cancel culture sh** really is out of control.

Just making the point that at least things were better a few years ago. Wasn't trying to derail.

All that being said, if I could magically snap my fingers and make it the 1980's or 90's, even though we'd lose internet and technology, I would gladly do so. Was an amazing time to be alive!

This is a stupid take.

A lot of us are downgrading because we're comparing him to Chappelle? Most of our posts are literally comparing this special to Rock's earlier specials. I'm not even a Chappelle fan, and have never seen most of his specials. I thought Chappelle's last special was basically about as good as this one... not that great.

I literally said my opinion was based on my love of Bigger and Blacker, Don't Shoot the Messenger, and everything I had heard from Rogan about Rock being on a tear.

Posts like these just make me shake my head and remember why TexAgs gets so stupid. People react to statements they make up in their own heads, then claim this is what everyone is saying.

My simple test for how funny a standup special is listening to the crowd: are they laughing out loud the entire time, crying laughing, out of their seats clapping etc, or are they just chuckling here and there. Chris Rock's earlier stand-up specials were laugh out loud funny. This last standup special? Not so much. The crowd was chuckling here and there but no real laugh out loud moments.

Agreed, that was a dumb take. Chappelle's last special wasn't that great either. We are just comparing this Chris Rock standup special to his earlier ones. I thought his last one was great actually, Tambourine. This one sucked.

shouldn't your simple test to find out how funny someone is be, "do you think its funny?"

i don't give a crap if anyone else thinks its funny. I could watch a Larry the Cable Guy special when he's performing for a bunch of his fans who laughing their asses off. I'd still think he sucks balls.
