No thanks. The last two seasons of the reboot were a disservice to Gillian and David as it was.

I'll watch anything Coogler does.

Should they call it the XY files?

What has he done to earn this? Creed was good, Black Panther was ok and Black Panther 2 was not good.

The XFiles is one of the best shows of all time, it should be left alone. Like said above, they already did a reboot with the original cast and other than a couple episodes, it was garbage.

Still waiting for the reboot of Family Matters or A Different World that's just all white people.

Can I interest you in a Step by Step or a Home Improvement or a Full House or…

He also directed Fruitvale Station, which was incredibly well done. Either way, it's weird to say he hasn't "earned" this, as if he's not a good filmmaker, or The X-Files is some sacred, holy property that can't be touched. When, reimagined for modern times, it could be interesting, and a cool way to introduce the subject to an audience who has almost assuredly never seen the original, and probably never will due to how dated it is.

That said, it *does* suck that, as is always the case when something gets remade, all copies of the original are erased from existence, never to be watched again. So I would definitely cherish your series rewatch before the remake police come and confiscate the original from your collection and/or scrub it from any streaming platforms you might subscribe to.

I didn't say he didn't earn it, was just asking what else was on his resume. Never heard of Fruitvale, so will check it out.

I know the original XFiles isn't going to be erased, but don't you wish they could come up with something original?

I'd be down for a modern HBO version. The original felt old even when it was new (at least to my mind, as a kid).

Episode 1 plot: They discover an alien plot to make all of humanity trans so that we depopulate the planet peacefully and save ourselves from global warming.

Sure because the sci-fi community has been absolutely screaming for a "reboot" of the longest running and one of the most beloved sci-fi shows in television history. The characters of Mulder and Scully obviously weren't good enough and need to be remade.

Give me a new show set in the same universe with diverse cast, throwbacks and cameos by first cast, playing off those story lines, then I'm probably **** yeah I'm in!

But to "reboot" the original just to make it more diverse and "erase" the original show then I'm like **** you!

I'd assume (hope) this is how it would be treated. It's something I feel like you can continue in a similar way to Star Trek, keeping and expanding on the same universe while having a new generation of people enter into it and continue the work Mulder and Scully did

I hope so and would love to see it. But doesn't sound like it.

A Fire in the Sky remake with a diverse cast would probably be pretty boring. Basically a group of people seeing some bright lights, saying 'F that!' and going back inside.

They already did this, it was called Fringe and it was all right.

In my opinion they're missing a good opportunity to both get the sci-fi base excited and bring a new audience into the fold. Just continue the story with a new cast. New monsters of the week, next generation of the Syndicate, new alien threat, etc. All modernized. No need to reimagine anything. Expand the universe, don't just retell the same story framework. We don't need a new Mulder and Scully. We need the next Mulder and Scully.

Go the Star Trek route. Picard wasn't the new Kirk. He was the next one and different in many ways that made TNG as loved as the original.

This.

No need to "reimagine" anything.

We had Millienium
We had The Lone Gunmen
We had the "modern" season.

I'm all for "that type of show", but no need for it to be X-Files related. Fringe was the heir apparent and was excellent - but it was excellent for much of the same reason X-Files was -- the main characters and the writers... Not because people are just yearning to go back into that "universe".

Mulder has become History Channel famous with his own show. Think Giorgio Tsoukalos.
Scully has become the ruthless leader of the next generation Syndicate.
Use the tic tac UAPs, Navy Pilots, Senators and government hearings, etc as the basis for the conspiracy episodes.
Roll out new monsters of the week in between.
Create new stories for the new cast and main characters based on this framework.
Everybody wins!

I was a little too young for X-Files when it originally came on, but I remember my dad watching it all the time and I believe i saw the movie...

I always had a crush on Gillian Anderson.

Except in the new "diverse" X-files they'll be on the side of the aliens.

Turns out Mulder is a closeted homosexual who on his off days is a burlesque dancer, scully is a tough black woman from the Bronx and the cigarette smoking man wears a red hat. He only smokes Marlboro reds. They employ a series of young grad students fresh from indoctrination to deliver new/old ideas and team up with a German professor with a sketchy past. I tell ya, the XY files sure is something on the Fringe.

You should give it a shot, it's really good. Especially with being such a big Vince Gilligan fan boy

I post my top movies/shows every year, and am constantly posting reactions/reviews along the way. If you know how to read you can find them all here pretty easily. It's mostly positive responses to very popular things (save for the occasional swerve), so your loss. Have fun avoiding Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman, Spider-Man, Dune, Succession, Better Call Saul, etc.

I enjoy reading TCTTS posts, but you have to take it thru the lens of him being a hype-guy. Everything is the "one of the best/scariest/funniest/best-written things he has ever seen".
