Thought about TTT'ing the Puss in Boots thread as it deals with that film, but only as an example because with some down time I wanted to see how this film performed at the box office and from a money standpoint I saw something that I can't recall any other examples of happening before......and if you know of any examples please share cause it's pretty awesome
This film was released on DVD February 24th, and yet is still making money in theaters....on top of that, it had multiple weekends after it's debut where it out performed or stayed right at it's opening weekend....part of that is due to it opening on christmas weekend....but it also opened when avatar 2 was just coming out so it had some pretty stiff competition....
so check these numbers out....
opening weekend domestic: $12,429,515
you'd think with that opening weekend this film would only have done maybe $50 million at best....but it currently sits at $184,260,725
and to compare:
first weekend box office: $12,429,515
second weekend box office: $16,815,340
third weekend box office: $13,541,330
fourth weekend box office: $14,466,850
fifth weekend box office: $11,807,355
sixth weekend box office: 10,498,885
that's 3 weekends post opening weekend where it out performed itself and two weekends after that did 95% and 84% of it's opening weekend performance.....
normal films experience something like a 40% drop from their opening weekend performance as a general rule......so i posted all this because i'm curious to hear from those who are just as interested as me and who also know a heck of a lot more about this sort of stuff....
has something like this ever happened before???
we dicuss all the time films that drop off BIG TIME due to negative fan backlash on social media with After Earth being the prime example......but how many times have we seen a film tread water and keep up it's opening weekend performace for this long mainly due to the positive reaction the film got???
any other examples of this?
