So in the last decade we've seen HBO, HBO Now, HBO Go, HBO Max, and now MAX. What a cluster.

According to the service's website, Max will be available in three different versions. The first two plans align with the existing HBO Max pricing, and WBD said current HBO Max customers will not see their pricing change (for now) when the new service debuts. The third tier, "Max Ultimate," expands to up to four streams and includes 4K content. The trio of options are:
  • Max Ad-Lite ($9.99/month or $99.99/year): Two concurrent streams, 1080p HD resolution, no offline downloads, 5.1 surround sound quality
  • Max Ad Free ($15.99/month or $149.99/year): Two concurrent streams, 1080p HD, up to 30 offline downloads, 5.1 surround sound quality
  • Max Ultimate Ad Free ($19.99/month or $199.99/year): Four concurrent streams, up to 4K Ultra HD resolution, 100 offline downloads, Dolby Atmos sound quality

I suppose that depends on whose content library you like more. HBO Max has the majority of the Warner Bros catalogue, HBO shows, and Adult Swim. If you have kids, it has Looney Toons, Cartoon Network, and Sesame Street. Still no word on how the Discovery content will be merged in or if that will remain a separate streaming platform

The new blue theme also sucks. The purple popped so much more, felt more modern, etc. Blue comes across as so generic, like Wal-Mart or something.

Agree. HBO is still considered a premium brand. Why get rid of it and confuse people? They could have had Good, Better, Best flavors and be done.

I can't tell if it's going to be the same app, just blue instead of purple, and with all the added Discovery content - or - if it's going to be a completely new app. They're saying all of our lists and favorites and currently watching and all that will translate over, which tells me it's likely the former, but who knows.

Comcast had lousy reputation for customer service so I can understand why they rebranded as Xfinity.

But HBO is a great brand. I can't understand what they think spending millions on brand awareness for this new brand will get them that spending millions promoting HBO wouldn't.

Yup. HBO has been a mainstay since the 80s and now it's MaxiPad...err...CineHBOmax... Makes no beaver dam sense. Atall.

Apparently blue is perceived as trustworthy and dependable according to marketers. That's why so many apps have blue icons and themes.

HBO Max has blown Netflix out of the water for at least a year now. Netflix is probably 4th place at best in terms of content of streaming services.

HBO Max has blown Netflix out of the water for at least a year now. Netflix is probably 4th place at best in terms of content of streaming services.

I put them as the top 2 easily in terms of balancing quantity and quality. Only 2 I keep year round (prime doesn't count). Some great shows on Apple, but it doesn't hold me past those.
