I was five when I saw Lethal Weapon and Aliens. Worked out great because at a young age it taught me what good movies were.

Back in the day, my mom took my younger sister and I to see Mission to Mars, which to be fair, was rated PG in a time when PG-13 was very much a thing. However, after the dude takes off his helmet and flash freezes in space, my sister was a bit traumatized and had to be taken from the theater for the rest of the show

So my dad took me to see Alien 3 when it came out. Did the math and holy **** I was only 6. I always loved horror movies as a kid.

I think what really got me was my grandfather watching candyman with me when it came out. The opening mirror scene was so bad I cried and we turned it off.

Edit: F I was 6 for that as well.

I still can't look in a mirror and say the phrase. Lol

Also Arachnophobia screwed me up as well. I can't do spiders.

When I was 15 I saw The Exorcist with my parents. My older sister raved about the movie and talked them into taking me. Very unstable to watch that movie as a teenager with your parents. Not one word was said in the car on the way home by anyone.

I remember when The Exorcist came out, and there were radio/TV commercials for it on all the time. The theme music alone was enough to terrify me.

Then that dang song actually became a hit. "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield.

My mom was appaled that I took my 13 (ok with that kid) 7 and 5 year old to see devotion...I still think it was fine.

I remember my Grandmother taking my brother (5 or 6) and me (11 or 12) to see Robin Hood:Men in Tights. I was just old enough to be uncomfortable.

Even the radio commercial was scary.

The radio commercial for Texas Chainsaw Massacre was also creepy as a little kid. I'm sure my older brother had told me all sorts of stuff about it to make it seem worse.

Yeah ... I used to listen to the radio for 30 minutes or so before I went to sleep every night and the second I heard that commercial start up, I would leap out of bed and shut it off.

Never an experience that I was taken to one that I shouldn't have and I haven't done that with my kid either. But I can still remember when I was a kid being at my friend's house and he got in an argument with his mom. He wanted to go see Three Amigos, his mom wanted to go see Predator. I just remember thinking "wtf is she doing taking a 6 year old to see Predator?"

I have been told I should be ashamed for binging Rick and Morty with the Demon Spawn.

But I am not.
Nor I am ashamed of Breaking Bad.

I got to hear, "Look down!" on those 2 occasions.
I'm willing to bet things were "looking up" after that as well!

Dumb parents let me watch the Exorcist on HBO with them when I was 7....slept with a bible under my pillow for a year.
In my experience, there's no such thing as luck.

Parents took me to basic instinct.

Just kidding

They did take me 10. Had to hide behind the car seat a couple of times.

Parents took themselves to see The Terminator (I just happened to be with them) when I was about 11. I remember watching Linda Hamilton's naked breasts between the gap in my father's fingers. Not sure if it "scarred" me, but it definitely made an impression.

Porky's when I was 9 or 10.

I can't say that I shouldn't have gone, I enjoyed it plenty.
For the record, the movie still holds up.

I'm too young to recall The Exorcist advertising in the year it came out. Regarding Alien, which I've already stated scared the crap out of me, I recall being up late one night with the TV on. At some point, they played the commercial for Alien. It was simply that freaking egg sitting there, it splits open with this light pouring out and this awful screeching sound. There were no scenes from the movie. But that sound just caused all kinds of problems for me. Hell, even many years later, that same sound was used in advertising for Prometheus. While it wasn't scary for me at that age, I found myself wishing I could throttle the projectionist for including that trailer in front of The Avengers and my daughter getting to see that trailer with that freakish sound.

Worst choice: Cool HS cousin and her boyfriend took me and my brother to see Pink Floyd: The Wall. Mind F.

Best choice: Uncle took us to see Raiders.

Funniest: My best friend's grandmother took us first graders to see The Eiger Sanction.

Most of the other age-inappropriate experiences were sneaking on HBO late night at home or at friends' (10, Porky's, Exorcist, Alien, Shining).

One time, on a band trip ...

Anyway, one time on a high school band trip, we went to a mall that had a movie theater. One of the chaperones took four of us -- all sophomores, I believe -- to see the R-rated "Slap Shot." Hilarious movie, and one of my all-time favorites, but probably not appropriate for a school trip.

The sight of Ralphie's mom in bed with Paul Newman has been permanently etched in my mind.

My parents took me and my sister to see Jaws in the theatre when it was first released. I was born in Sept. '69 and my sister in Sept. '70. Jaws was released in June of '75. I can remember being afraid to get in any body of water for months.

I let my daughter watch The Ring when she was in junior high. She had nightmares for a while.

Not my kid but I took my 6 year old nephew to see Jackass II. My brother, the kids dad, thought it was hilarious. The mom? Yeah, not so much. I believe she used the term "Irresponsible ****head" in describing my actions. Haha.

I was 6 when I saw Orca and I wouldn't even walk over a manhole cover for fear a killer whale would be in the sewer.

My parents were weird. If I was going to see the movie with them, they would only see something family friendly. However, they had no problem dropping my brother and me off to see whatever we wanted. I'm not even sure they knew what we were seeing. In third grade we had seen Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, along with plenty of raunchy 80s comedies with tons of nudity.

Jaws in 75 messed up 12 year old Mathguy in a bad bad way. I did not like getting in the water at a beach for a very long time.

Ditto.
It wasn't just beaches, but lakes, rivers or even freaking swimming pools, I was watching for sharks.

To this day, I think of that movie when I go to beaches . I think I was a bit younger than 12 though
