I was five when I saw Lethal Weapon and Aliens. Worked out great because at a young age it taught me what good movies were.
I remember when The Exorcist came out, and there were radio/TV commercials for it on all the time. The theme music alone was enough to terrify me.chick79 said:
When I was 15 I saw The Exorcist with my parents. My older sister raved about the movie and talked them into taking me. Very unstable to watch that movie as a teenager with your parents. Not one word was said in the car on the way home by anyone.
Yeah ... I used to listen to the radio for 30 minutes or so before I went to sleep every night and the second I heard that commercial start up, I would leap out of bed and shut it off.maroon barchetta said:

I have been told I should be ashamed for binging Rick and Morty with the Demon Spawn.
But I am not.
Nor I am ashamed of Breaking Bad.
I'm willing to bet things were "looking up" after that as well!jokershady said:
My dad took me to go see Starship Troopers when I was 12.
I got to hear, "Look down!" on those 2 occasions.

I'm too young to recall The Exorcist advertising in the year it came out. Regarding Alien, which I've already stated scared the crap out of me, I recall being up late one night with the TV on. At some point, they played the commercial for Alien. It was simply that freaking egg sitting there, it splits open with this light pouring out and this awful screeching sound. There were no scenes from the movie. But that sound just caused all kinds of problems for me. Hell, even many years later, that same sound was used in advertising for Prometheus. While it wasn't scary for me at that age, I found myself wishing I could throttle the projectionist for including that trailer in front of The Avengers and my daughter getting to see that trailer with that freakish sound.maroon barchetta said:

The radio commercial for Texas Chainsaw Massacre was also creepy as a little kid. I'm sure my older brother had told me all sorts of stuff about it to make it seem worse.
my dad rented that for me when I was home sick from school for a few days, I may have been in middle school. My mom had to be out of town.HtownAg92 said:

Exorcist at 10
Jaws at 8
The Blob at 4 or 5
My parents couldn't have paid less attention…all scary as hell for my age.

My parents took me and my sister to see Jaws in the theatre when it was first released. I was born in Sept. '69 and my sister in Sept. '70. Jaws was released in June of '75. I can remember being afraid to get in any body of water for months.
I let my daughter watch The Ring when she was in junior high. She had nightmares for a while.

Jaws in 75 messed up 12 year old Mathguy in a bad bad way. I did not like getting in the water at a beach for a very long time.
