I canceled mine earlier this year because of a combination of lack of content and woke content. Not 100% against Disney though...I'll pick them up again eventually for a month or so to watch whatever I want and then cancel again.
Very principled stance you got there...
Not everything in life is black and white. But I guess that's too complicated for you.

Had no idea there were cricket matches on D+. How bizarre and out of scope for that channel but money talks.

Dot loss + rising prices + mostly mediocre content (currently) + utterly fragmented TV/streaming market + politics is to blame here.

It's not a one issue thing causing this.

Does growing up mean getting mad about dumb culture war stuff? Because if so, hard pass.

I'm not mad about culture war stuff. I'm just annoyed by childish posters like yourself. You're the one that seems offended by selectively reading and highlighting parts of my post and then telling me what I think. If you want to make a point to the OPs question then make it. Otherwise, you are just harassing other posters for your own jollies and can piss off. Actually, I'll just block you and fix that problem.

It's tough man. I hate Disney with a passion but she loves Moana (so do I) and Frozen. Lion King too. So we have it.

I'd like to find a way to pirate it but I'm not too tech savvy.

I didn't realize the cricket deal was 100% responsible for the dip in subscribers. My bad

TCTTS calling me "deranged" is funny though. He is very rattled.

You're a grown man who "hates" a company "with a passion" that makes entertainment for children. That you even state this aloud, much less choose to make it part of your identity, only proves my point.
correct me if I am wrong but it I have read numerous articles that Disney, both parks and entertainment media, is moving towards an approach that caters as much to young and middle age adults as it does families with kids. Is that not correct?

Oh no, I should go short Disney stock because I don't think they'll recover from this.

These dumb arguments about getting beat over the head with woke stuff is the same as the crazy lady that freaked out over Married with Children back in the day. Disney isn't broadcasting these movies and shows directly into your kids minds. You have to make several conscious clicks to get to any of these programs to watch them. Just like that crazy lady should have done, just change the channel or don't hit play.

The market of young, childless "Disnerds" who visit WDW or DL multiple times a year -- or even a month -- has grown tremendously. So has the number of Disney Vacation Club members, who have invested significantly in the Disney experience and can't just back out easily.

This also makes a lot of sense with Disney's content the past few years. They used to be all Mickey and animated films very much aimed at kids, but now Marvel and Star Wars make up a huge part of their fanbase with a demographic that skews older.
The product in these categories has also been hit & miss.

Look at Star Wars. Mando was a huge hit, but then there are huge breaks between seasons. Boba Fett was not good. Kenobi was terrible, Andor was good. The new Mando has not been good enough to drive new subscriptions.

If you're a Star Wars fan, why sign up for a year when you may get 8 to 16 episodes of good entertainment? I can sign up for a month and still easily consume all of the content.

After losing 1.5MM in 1Q. These seem like pretty big numbers. What could be the problem(s)? Genuinely curious, as I know it's not the woke stuff. That never has a negative financial impact, I am told on here.

It genuinely must be tiring to try and steer every conversation on TexAgs in the same direction a million times a day, then obviously say something you want to distance yourself from and have to completely abandon your previous anonymous username and create a new one.

The obsessiveness... the sick need to constantly try and rub it in people's faces... the virtue signaling... the paranoia... and especially the being proven wrong time and again part really does seem like *the* most exhausting/deranged way to live one's life. Especially when like ten seconds of research would have revealed the India/soccer thing. That stat is everywhere. But, no. Must. Fight. Perceived. Wokeness. At. All. Cost.

I figured it had to be due to The Mandalorian dropping significantly in quality. This season was bad IMO, I stopped watching after 5 episodes and this show was the only reason I kept my sub. My kids are in Middle School now and don't watch it. I haven't cancelled yet but plan to soon when I get around to it

Yup. I think this is a big factor as well.

Those that were around in the 80s….remember how many video game systems there were back then????

Now….there's 3…..Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo.

I'm guessing we're gonna eventually see more combinations/mergers of all these different streaming option subscriptions and it'll eventually go the same route of having 2-3 different major options….

I believe that's already in the works, with Discovery and HBO rolling up into Max, Disney rolling Hulu and D+ into one service, etc.

Just look at this board with all the *official* discussion threads, make 10 shows and see what sticks. In a year throw another 10, rinse/repeat.

scrolling through the endless content on each streaming service is a chore. I much prefer YouTube content that I can search for based on interest.

That's pretty much anyone under 25 I think. My kids are in MS and they watch YouTube, Insta, and TikTok more than regular tv and when they do watch a movie or tv show on streaming they are watching things on their phones at the same time.

On Saturday I saw Hoosiers was streaming for free so I called my son down from his room and told him to sit with me and watch one of the great Sports films of all time. At least 5 or 6 times I tossed a throw pillow or something at him to make him put the phone away to watch.

The human brain is going to be forever changed by the cellphones and social media, attention spans are so short now.

they were competing for Cricket rights in India. All these services tend to look a little different abroad.

In India, most folks have very little disposable income, so I think the idea of paying for multiple streaming services is fairly foreign.

It's completely overwhelming. My wife and I pick one show together that we watch until we finish it unless we happen to be watching something that is in between seasons (rare).

I typically do the same for my nerd shows that I watch by myself although sometimes I might have up to 3 shows I watch at same time but that's rare.

I then have one video game that I play beginning to end before picking another one. And I'm very picky here since I only play one at a time.

If it helps, this is exactly why I do these threads...

Every month you can watch a few trailers and pick a few things you're interested in. Granted, I don't include broadcast, reality, or docu-series, but it's basically every prominent/notable scripted movie or scripted cable/streaming series, all in one place.

I can't tell you how many times I've spent half an hour scrolling through all the options and not being able to make a decision. For me, it's not that there's is nothing on, it's that there's too much, and so much of it requires a major time commitment.

Greatest thing ever is HBO Max streaming the entire South Park catalog. That alone is worth the sub to me.
