The theory was that people will cycle services, so still need a quarter or two of steady results, but as predicted, Netflix knows what they're doing.

Per Morning Brew, strategy appears to be working, at least very early on.

I cancelled my account as I only kept it as family used it.

Netflix subscriptions jump after password-sharing crackdown. Netflix's long-awaited war against password sharing has finally begun, and it's already delivered the streaming giant its best days of new US user sign-ups in at least four years, according to the analytics company Antenna. Netflix added 100k US subscribers on each of two days after it started enforcing the new rules. The company has estimated that 100 million households are sharing passwords, but now that'll cost an additional $7.99 per monthon top of $15.49 for the cheapest subscription tier to allow password sharing.

Edit: looks like someone already posted this above.

I think odds are they won't. People generally don't do things that take effort to change their default or the status quo, especially things like cancelling and restarting subscriptions. It's why the subscription model works on the first place. Once you establish the inertia, most customers will stick to it for the sole reason that they don't want to pick up the phone or log into an app to cancel. Some people will certainly cycle, but I think the number will be a small percentage.

And they never wanted you to turn in the video on time.

Total new subscriptions were up like 2%. That's not soaring.

And its why netflix stock is down 13% from last earnings call.

They have a PE of 45. Way too high imo.

new subscriber numbers did "soar" as illustrated above.

lots of cancellations as well, so the net number was much lower.

Is this already in effect? Asking because I've been deployed since this announcement and still using my family's account without having my device log in back home.

Every time I see this thread pop up it reminds me how little I actually watch Netflix, it's a waste of $15 a month, and that I need to cancel even without this pseudo reason. Now if I could put in the 5 seconds to actually do it…

So keep reminding me! One of these times I'll actually do it. It's such a waste of money…

I was, "ahem," borrowing from my parents. Since the crackdown, I decided to wait and see if my family missed it before I subscribed. Nobody, including myself, seems to have missed it.
