Upon initial viewing, I was so wanting it to be great, and it wasn't, that I was greatly disappointed and I saw all the flaws.
However, upon viewing it with my young kids, they loved it, and I found plenty to enjoy about it. That was the SW movie that they enjoyed watching the most on long van rides. I'm generally positive on the movie now.

I agree that a slightly older Anakin and modification of the Jar Jar character would have made it much better.

I swear everyone I talk to is usually negative about this movie.

TPM is trash. 3 hours of just boring, gpd-awful acting and storyline. 10 minutes of awesome light-sabre battle ain't enough to save the dumpster fire that was TPM

I saw it opening weekend with my dad and brother. My dad fell asleep about 45 minutes in. Lucky *******.

We can at least agree on ROTJ and Rogue One.

ROTJ - Mediocre movie at best, with high highs (Luke vs Vader), but very low lows. (Literally everything on Endor)
the speeder chase in the woods was awesome

Eh, it's kinda cool, but it's not nearly as cool or exciting at the podrace.

Really? The podrace was populated by characters no one had any real investment in with awful CGI.
And goofy stupid car race alien announcers.

Agreed. Pod racing sucks and certainly isnt wizard. Waste of a big chunk of the movie.

Opinion stated as fact.

Gee, never seen this before, especially with regard to this movie.

I guess it's necessary to state the obvious with you. Yeah, that was my opinion. As are everyone else's thoughts on the movie in this thread.
Jesus what a lazy take.

One of the most disappointing things for me is the potential that the prequels has as far as story telling. Taking a character that we already know as a great villain, and then spend two movies making us love him. Then in the third act, pull the rug out from under us and remind everyone that he's evil. That could have been so great.

I think this argument is flawed. Better to see the slow burn, otherwise you end up with a GoT-esque crap turn.

You need to do both in a way, and that's exactly what Lucas did.

He was sweet and innocent in TPM (albeit annoying), and angsty and angry in AOTC, like a typical teen. But he was still good at heart and loyal to the Jedi and to Obi-Wan. Sure, he rebels often, but again, what teen doesn't?

But it leads perfectly into the moment he murders all the sand people. You needed those flashes of anger and lack of self-control to make that leap.

Right, a slowwwww burn with some pepper thrown in here and there.

Darth Mauls entrance as the duel of fates music begins is perfectly executed. Everyone in both the movie and the audience were probably thinking the same thing " oh crap it's about to go down".

The pod race was fun. Jar jar sucked. I liked the multi layered battle at the end with the duel of fates. It's a better Star Wars movie than probably half of them.

Given how often there have been posters on this site claiming this movie is "objectively" bad, I disagree with your lazy take assertion. Lazy IMO is going along with the group-think regarding this movie and using definitive terms such as you did to state your opinion. Yes, for you "it's not good y'all. It's just not", and that's perfectly fine.

I was heading to 6th grade when it came out that summer. I rode my bike a 1/2 mile from my house to the movies and saw it 9 times in theaters. Tickets were only $2 at the theater in Calallen. Good times.
