That Argo thread got me thinking. I really enjoy thrillers like that. It's also heavy on dialog and doesn't have a ton of spikes in volume. Also lots of dark scenes which makes it ideal to fall asleep to. Or if they have a very settling soundtrack.

So that's the rule for this thread. What movies do you actually ENJOY, but you also enjoy falling asleep to?

Mine are usually legal: Michael Clayton, the Firm, Promised Land, the Perfect Storm, Collateral (since it's a slow start), Open Range

I'm the other way, I kind of like loud constant action so that if I'm falling asleep it all kind of blends together. Most any Marvel movie is good for this, or movies like the Bourne movies or Mission Impossible.

Pretty much any old movies I can fall asleep to but enjoy, the stuff you find on TCM.

But for me the best things to fall asleep to aren't movies, they're cooking shows. The Great British Baking Show is my go to when I need to relax and get some sleep.

Fellowship of the Ring.

The music is great, it's a pretty dark lit film, especially Moria. You get the brightness of the Shire at the beginning when you're not tired, but then it goes into a darklit escape to Bree. Then when you get to Bree you're in a dark tavern and the sound of rain.

Even when you get to Rivendell it's not in your face bright.

It's long so you can take an hour nap and still be right in the thick of things when you wake up.

Fall asleep at Bree and wake up at Khazad-dum. You don't miss "You Shall Not Pass!". You're still groggy from the nap but by the time you clear your head it's time to face the Urukhai.

This is perfect for a Sunday afternoon 1pm start.

It took me 3 times watching Apollo 13 before I finished it without falling asleep.

Also fell asleep when I finally watched the last Star Wars trilogy movie - on Disney+.

I've fallen asleep the 3-4 times I've tried to watch The Hobbit, but that's mainly because it was always after putting kids to bed and late. It has been a few years since I've tried again, but I've only been through about an hour of it.

The one time I tried watching Lord of the Rings I fell asleep.

I can fall asleep pretty easily to Tremors, but maybe because it is my goto background movie, so I know it so well.

But non-movies, it is easily Cosmos A Personal Voyage and A Spacetime Odeysee. I enjoy the content, but both Sagan and Tyson have soothing voices that are easy to fall asleep to.

Ad Astra. One of the most boring movies that shouldn't be boring ever. Fell asleep in the theater watching it, and fall asleep any time it's on and I try again.

Shane. I'm an old dude and have seen this movie more times than I would like to admit. After the initial saloon fight with Ben Johnson I have, many times, drifted off to sleep, sometimes in a alcoholic stupor, while watching the movie and usually wake up with Joey chasing after Shane to the saloon for the final showdown with Jack Palance.

I started watching clips of his shows. Calming voice, but he is so positive. I never had an art teacher like that. Anything you do is great.

One year in college, seemingly every night when we'd come home from the bar we'd put on Last of the Mohicans. I've never seen more than about the first 10 minutes of that movie.
