It's not that difficult to not commit rape/sexual assault

The allegations were made this week and the incidents range from being 10 years ago (the most recent) and 17 years ago (the furthest away).
How does one prove such a case or defend such a case that is so old?

Ask Danny Masterson.
she's proven to be pretty damned crazy. remember the old adage, "no matter how hot a girl is somewhere some guy has had enough of her sheet."maroon barchetta said:

If this is true he's really fallen far.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm a newb when it comes to understanding the law. Hypothetically let's say Brand did commit one of the acts he's accused of, does something like statute of limitations come into play?

Statute of limitations always applies, but it depends on the length of the statute of limitations for the crime in question. In California, I believe they removed the statute of limitations on rape.
As for proving it, one of the alleged victims went to a rape crisis center almost immediately and has some texts allegedly between her and Brand that seem to support her story. It will be he said, she said to a jury, but there is at least a fair amount of documentation that backs up the claim. It's not like the Kavanaugh thing where Blasey Ford couldn't give anything beyond, "I don't know where or when, but he raped me 30 something years ago at a party no one else remembers."
I think he has changed dramatically after getting sober, in terms of character and behavior. If he really broke the law with his sexual escapades from 10-15 years ago, he should face the music. That being said, I can't help but get shady vibes when women come out of the woodwork decades later. Did he engage in freaky consensual sex, or did he actually rape and sexually harass girls against their will? We will see I guess.Cliff.Booth said:

This one is pretty damning. It raises questions when things surface many years later, but this is pretty solid evidence that while she may not have come forward right away, she considered it rape when it happened. Lots of victims choose not to come forward at the time.Quote:
One woman alleges that Brand raped her against a wall in his Los Angeles home. She was treated at a rape crisis centre on the same day. The Times says it has seen medical records to support this
This one it doesn't really matter if it was consensual or not. If there's any evidence to support they were having sex when he was in his 30s and she was 16 then he's in trouble. And if this one is true, the others look more true.Quote:
A second woman alleges that Brand assaulted her when he was in his early 30s and she was 16 and still at school. She alleges he referred to her as "the child" during an emotionally abusive and controlling relationship
Who knows what is backing these up, but if there's no evidence it's a tough sell. No evidence doesn't mean it didn't happen, but that's not how the justice system works for good reason. Again, if the first two can be proven it makes these allegations look more credible.Quote:
A third woman claims that Brand sexually assaulted her while she worked with him in Los Angeles, and that he threatened to take legal action if she told anyone else about her allegation
The fourth woman alleged being sexually assaulted by Brand and him being physically and emotionally abusive towards her

If he did this, it's on brand.
Sure it does. Especially when the person in question is rich and more likely to pay to make it go away.Macarthur said:
At first blush, it appears there is some real evidence here. Just because the public doesn't hear about something for a period of time, doesn't automatically make accusations suspicious.
I don't know, but if you read stories about women that are victims of these crimes, it doesn't take long for you to realize why they don't always pursue these things.cc10106 said:
But why all of a sudden? Who has Brand pissed off?
