In a perfect world a sexual assault victim would have the courage and strength to make sure her rapist is incarcerated and can never harm again. In the real world, the thought of reliving that experience in front of cops, the DA, and a jury is so horribly tramautizing to some women suicide is preferable. I'm sorry AtMAg that it might take YEARS of work with a prefessional therapist before a victim is strong enough and less fragile to finally take on the worst experience of their life, and that it doesnt tie nicely with our desire for immediate justice, but it is human psychology.

And Brand is entitled to a legal defense and a presumption of innocence. He would not be the first nor the last victim of false reporting, but these women and Brand have the rght to face off in a court of law, and not our entertainment forum.

I don't pretend to understand why women wait so long to report rape. It does bug me that they do wait because there will always be guys like atmAg that doubt them. I have been sexually harassed at work and didn't do anything about it, but that was my choice at the time. I have a ton of regret about it because I may have exposed other women in the workplace to the same issue with the same man. Thankfully, the guy soon left and we never heard from him again.

I do have someone very close to me who was raped by our cousin. She didn't tell anyone until after a significant event happened in our lives. When I asked her why it took her 10 years to say something, she simply said that she felt that no one would believe her over him, and she felt that her father would literally kill the man who did it if she even blabbed a word, and she couldn't live with herself if that happened. Looking back at the timeline of events now, it all made sense. She became combative towards her family. She literally never left the house for almost two years and no one knew why. She finally got help and got back to her old self. She's doing great now and has confronted her rapist. He admitted to what he did to the entire family and is living a very lonely life. She opted to not go to the police because the incident happened over 30 years ago.

Do I believe it happened to her? Yes.
Do I wish she had said something then? Absolutely.
Do I understand why she didn't say anything? Yes and no.

No one is going to change anyone's minds about this.

We've cleaned this thread up. We don't have a problem with a thread about this topic being in Entertainment. Brand is/was in entertainment for several decades. So it certainly seems relevant to talk about an entertainer that has made the news in this way.

However, we also understand that Brand has recently become a political personality of sorts. So it certainly makes sense for there to be political discussion surrounding this person.

As with all things, this should not be that hard for everyone to work through and post accordingly.

If you want to have a discussion about Brand as an entertainer, being accused of these things in the news report and all the reactions and news and discussions WITHIN ENTERTAINMENT. That goes here in this thread. We will also allow discussions about rape/sexual assault/victim/trauma, etc, but not in the political context.

If you want to have a discussion about Brand and this news in the context of politcs and politics of news investigations. You need to head over the the Politics/News Forum to discuss those topics surrounding this story.

Consider this the warning for anyone that decides to post in the wrong forum on this topic after this post.

That said, tctts is one one side or another of virtually every single argument had on this board. I reckon it will be a little less contentious around here for the next month.

He does get a lot of personal attacks on here. He's not good at responding to those a lot of times but I can sympathize with that. It's hard to let that **** go sometimes. In the end I think he's probably a good dude and he definitely brings a lot to this board.

There shouldn't be anything political about an entertainment personality being accused of rape. It was only when folks start throwing out the tinfoil theories that it even turned that direction.

Gonna be a nice month around here. You can get "insider updates" easily from following a few X accounts, and this can be a message board where people get to express their opinions without a self-proclaimed expert having a fit.

Not sure how anybody who has paid attention to Russel Brand over the past few years, even just in passing, could think an accusation of this magnitude WOULDN'T become political.

What exactly is political over deciding whether someone is a rapist or not? What's your problem?

It's plausibly political that accusations which ruin a person's career and get them deplatformed surface many years after the fact once an entertainer has waded into political/social issues and gone against the establishment. That's not to say he isn't possibly also guilty of these accusations, but there's a reason many people believe it is a politically motivated defamation.
