Jimmy Buffett's 1st 4 albums are fantastic. The rest, not so much.

Nice troll attempt.

I'm a very big fan of O.A.R and their sound pre 2010

Genesis: great before drum machines, not so much after.

Trying to really lean into the "hate" and "love" vibe, and the first one that really comes to mind is Offspring. I will always have a soft spot for "Self Esteem" and "The Kids Aren't Alright", but I can't abide "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" or "Why Don't You Get a Job".

Great topic. Sad to say it but Pearl Jam fits. Gave the most recent album one listen and I've never gone back, but for the most part I like everything else of theirs and love a lot of it. When I'm out in the garage or doing stuff outside they are my go to band to just put on a shuffle and see where the songs go.

As for the Metallica mention, their bad albums are objectively universally considered bad. I guess even Pearl Jam's most record wasn't received well either.

Maybe a better way to frame the thought is what artist or band has stuff you love, stuff you hate, but it's mainly stuff you hate that gets a lot of general population support? Not just bad stuff that most everyone considers bad.

It's a fun topic, I'm having a hard time thinking of good answers if I frame it that way.

I think the even better question than this is if bands exist who were relevant for longer than a decade where you've liked everything they've done.

This as well.

Those two songs basically ruined that band for me and I'm usually not like that haha.

Yeah u2 lost me with Zooropa and never got me back with the newer stuff, with the exception of 1 or 2 songs.

No kidding. The Bends and Kid A were groundbreaking. Paranoid Android might be the best song of the last 30 years.

Everything before Southeastern was nails, Southeastern was exceptional, 24 Frames was good, then everything since then is a big pile of meh.

I'm guessing this is an unpopular opinion, but Nashville Sound and Weathervanes are both better than Something More Than Free (which is still great)

Lynyrd Skynrd. I can't stand to hear SHA or FB but I enjoy a lot of their other stuff.

Another good one is Highly Suspect - their first two albums (Boy Who Died Wolf & Mister Asylum) were awesome and then their third album (MCID) they shifted to a hip hop/rock and while I don't mind it, it was enough for me to be disinterested in their newest one.

Absolutely this - there are a couple off MDC I like, but man MCID was a wet fart

I still listen to Mister Asylum often

albums?

st. anger is not 'universally considered bad'.

Especially as of late. And the songs are killer live. The album was poorly executed, but it's not an [entirely] bad collection of songs.

all within my hands w/ the symphony is stellar.

I came to say pearl jam.

How can I love so dearly all the ten songs and most of the singles off vs/vitology, yet they have garbage like spin the black circle, lukin, or world wide suicide?

70s ZZ Top has stood the test of time. La Grange, Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers, Tush, Just Got Paid…
With 1or 2 debatable exceptions, 80s ZZ Top was fun at the time but is meh now.

70s Elton John = absolute classics like Your Song, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Rocket Man, etc.
80s Elton John and everything afterward with just a couple of exceptions sucks.

Me in the crowd:

70's Joel was perfect. Very little 80's Joel I can stand.

Same with Elton John through the years.

Huge fan up to Tromp Le Monday. Reformed Pixies is garbage.

I tend to dislike vastly overplayed songs by really good artists whose other music is great. Examples include:

Fight For Your Right
Rock and Roll All Night
Bohemian Rhapsody

Pear Jam is a good one. Ten is a top 5 90s album and Vs and Vitalogy are good as well. After that, I'm just not a fan outside a handful of songs.
I agree with this one. I absolutely love Ten, Vs, Vitalogy and Yield. I've tried listening to all their other stuff and it is terrible to me.

That's a good one. They flipped from solid rockin' to crappy ballads.

Speaking of, not so much rockin', but the Chicago transition is another one that I can't stand.

Not to derail but I also like the inverse of this one question… what's an artist/band that's never ever put out stuff you didn't like?

John Mayer for me.

I wonder how much of that was due to Terry Kath's passing?
