Considering I still have these from my misspent youth at the Sportatorium, I think I'll have to go watch that.
Late 70s (or early 80s)... lived in Denton. One of my hangouts during the Summer was to ride my trail bike to a motorcycle shop, Action Imports (on 35/Loop 288).
Walked out of the shop one day and there was the Von Erich sons and Fritz talking in the parking lot .
Wanted to walk by and say "howdy." But saw they were having a serious conversation.
I didn't walk over.
In no way did I want to have an Iron Claw experience

A character with an unstable family life. Seems fitting.
I was a huge fan as a kid, until they came to Waco. My dad took me & a friend, we got right up to ringside. You didn't need to get that close to see how fake it was. The angles on TV hid that. That was the last time I watched any wrestling.
I'm convinved I saw Kevin Von Erich at Love Field in 1986 or 87,
I wonder if they'll re-create this masterpiece.

Hold up....why are they hanging out together? Are they throwing around a Frisbee?!?? Kayfabe died for me that day but it's still fun to watch. I know Keanu Reeves can't dodge bullets but Neo can.

I'll be disappointed if the movie doesn't have someone good cast as manager 'Playboy' Gary Hart.
I believe he was the real star of the North Texas wrestling promotion from the mid-60's to the mid-80's. The Von Erich boys even called him Uncle Gary.
To use restaurant parlance, Gary worked both front of house (evil bad guy manager) and back of house (booker) and conceived most of the angles and pairings of wrestlers while working for Fritz.
Years later he stated that he had two objectives concerning the business: (i) build the dragons that the good guys (i.e. - the Von Erichs) would eventually slay; and, (ii) keep the promoter's building filled with fans.
He particularly shined in his time doing TV interviews, and was able to gin up heat and excitement among the fans. He was the guy fans loved to hate.

Imagine being in kindergarten and walking to lunch and seeing the Von Erichs playing Frisbee with the damned Freebirds! Definitely earth shattering.

I saw David wrestle Gorgeous Jim Garvin (and Sunshine) at Will Rogers shortly before David died. One of the more vivid memories of my childhood.
Watching the trailer again, I might have flipped Efron and White for Kerry and Kevin. Kerry was an absolute monster at his peak and Efron's build is much closer than White's. Efron actually looks too bulked up for Kevin.
Yeah, I'm able to over look the height discrepancies (Kevin was 6'4", David was 6'7" and the other brothers were 6'2" where White and Efron are both 5'7 or so) but I agree they got the builds flipped.
When I was right around 10 years old (early 90s) my dad took me to the Sportatorium and told stories of the Von Erichs and Skandor Akbar. It was a top 5 memory for me as a child. That gritty old building and a fan who had a bag a sock puppets who would entertain the crowd on his own between matches. I heard and 80 year old lady with the most foul mouth I'd ever heard. And old woman beside me said she had to miss last week, her first Friday night to miss in 29 years.

That place was just a big sheet metal old barn, but hell, I was just a young kid and didn't know any better.
I do recall my dad ordering a beer from a beer vendor who was going up and down the aisles. I watched this guy as he took a glass bottle of beer, popped the top, poured it into a plastic cup and then handed it to my dad. The vendor kept the bottle, though.
I asked my dad why the guy would go to all that trouble when he could have just handed him the bottle. He told me that otherwise some of the 'fans' would throw the glass bottles at the wrestlers in the ring. That blew my young mind, I've gotta say.
We didn't live in Dallas and so I probably only went to the Sportatorium about 6 times over the next 25 years. It made for some great people-watching, I must say, and the rumor was that the grease in the concession stand deep fryers was never changed that entire time!
