Just saw it with the fam today. We all enjoyed it, but we are all suckers for a musical-ish show. So it was a lot of fun and Timothee and Olivia Coleman (one of my faves) nailed it.

We saw this tonight. Some nice visuals and a few humorous moments.
Overall though it sucked and is on the "never watch again" list.
High bar for me, I watch the original (Gene Wilder) a couple of times a year.
It's not fair to classify it as a child murder house. The Oompa Loompas did their best to turn it into a child murder home.AustinAg2K said:
Does the movie get into the psychological torture Wonka must have received as a kid that caused him to create a child murder house?

Just think of it as a different shard in the Wonka multi-verse.EclipseAg said:
Timothee Chalamet was perfect in that role. But the story itself is kind of a mess, with so many moving parts. I'm not a big fan of prequels that introduce a lot of complexity and details that don't appear in the original. It's okay for new audiences, I suppose, but it suspends belief when you are seeing things that don't seem to match up with what you already know.
All in all, however, it was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.
Yeah ... the movie would have been better with more Hugh Grant, less Noodle. And then decide if the plot revolves around the chocolate cartel OR escaping Mrs. Scrubbit's clutches, not both.NoahAg said:
I thought it was just ok. I tried to take quick naps during the boring songs. Which were all of the songs. The best part of the movie was Hugh Grant Oompa Loompa. He nailed it.

Took the fam last night. I thought it was good but wasn't wowed by it. The kids 14 and 12 thought it was great. For me being raised on the original Gene Wilder version it didn't measure up but good enjoyable film overall.

I don't really remember it as a "musical", thankfully.
