Tonight I learned there is a show called Succession and a Culkin sibling or nephew or something.

I also learned that Iowa doesn't celebrate MLK day because they are busy doing way way way early election stuff.

I also learned that it's more important to see if bad orange man made any waves in Iowa than it is to watch awards shows or playoff football.

To be honest I wonder if lack of viewership was a factor. Maybe not a lot of the tv academy even watched it since it was only on cable.

They get free screener episodes, so that shouldn't really be an issue, but who knows. Mainly, I just think Succession was always the "sexier" pick.

More people have AMC than HBO/Max. But maybe there's more perception of prestige w/ HBO.
I also kind of suspect that voters just didn't want to award a spin-off, or thought Breaking Bad got enough awards. Seems silly, but there could've been some fatigue and/or snobbery.

*Breaking Bad's score was 58 nominations and 16 wins.

Makes me sick; truly one of the Greatest.

Why do you think that? I would think HBO has way more viewers than AMC, especially in the streaming era.

Maybe I'm wrong; I just thought AMC was included in more subscription packages. Maybe Max has surpassed all of that though. I did a little googling for numbers, but most articles are about subscription losses, not current totals.

AMC also doesn't do as good a job promoting their shows come Emmy-season

I mean Rhea not winning for her "Waterworks" episode is just disturbed

My personal picks would have been:
Bob Odenkirk lead actor.
Rhea Seehorn supporting actress.
Hader or Sudeikis for comedy lead. Jeremy Alan White is fine, but he doesn't drive like those other two do.
Janelle James kills it in Abbott Elementary. Easily my comedy supporting actress.

And not even a nomination for Lego Masters for best reality competition series?

Most academy members used to opt out of the screeners when they sent out individual episodes on dvd. I had to opt out when I had a giant stack in my kitchen and I never watched any of them. Now they are through email but I still don't watch them.

I didn't get a chance to watch last night but looking at the winners I have minimal input.

-I think the voters were put in a tough spot between Macfayden and Skarsgard with the last season of Succession. I probably would have gone with Skarsgard, but I can't fault the Macfayden nod, both were so good. I think it's also hard to put up Skarsgard's season alone vs what Macfayden did with Tom for the entire arc of the show.
-Seeing The Bear clean up is so great, that show is just incredible. Tough to see Ted Lasso's last season run into the buzz saw that is The Bear, but sometimes that's how it goes.
-Paul Walter Houser getting recognized for Black Bird, awesome. I didn't see Beef so I don't know how good Steven Yeun was but Taron Egerton was also great in Black Bird. Highly recommend that show if you have Apple TV+.

I always wondered how that worked with episodes as opposed to the movie screeners. Yeah, that seems like an insane amount of DVDs. Online makes way more sense, but even then, as I understand it, the quality isn't the best (as in no 4K).

No way. I loved Skarsgard but Macfadyen was the right choice imo. That balcony scene with Shiv was what won them both the Emmy.

I like to think there are people who started The Bear after the Emmys because they were looking for a new comedy to binge only to end up with a 3 pack a day habit by the end of episode 3

Tom explaining how he didn't actually cheat at his bachelor party in Season 1 is the all-timer.

- Don't air the awards on a weeknight.

- Don't air the awards opposite NFL playoff football.

- Change the June-to-May eligibility window. It's too confusing, and a relic from when broadcast seasons (September to May) were the benchmark. Now? Like every other awards show, just make the eligibility window the calendar year. January to December.

Granted, this year's Emmys were obviously massively delayed, and it was a special occasion, but this has been a problem they've been needing to fix for a while now...

Keiran Culkin was the bed-wetting cousin in Home Alone.

Unbelievable. I'm late to the party on Better Call Saul. Just powered through all 6 seasons (3 episodes left) over the last 6 weeks. Love it. Probably even more than Breaking Bad. Crazy they never won an Emmy. Sacrilege.
