Eh, I would argue that only one of those movies is good (Inside Llewyn Davis), and he's only in a few scenes at that. The rest is impressive, but no where near McConaughey, Carrey, Hanks, or Allen, IMO.
True, but none of them have the "Marry Jessica Biel" line item on their resumes.

Touche.

She's even more stunning in person. Have seen her a couple times around town.

In the span of 13 months Harrison Ford had Empire and Raiders.
Sorry, if you give him the month, nothing tops that.

Did Hanks not win two Oscars in his brief run in that same era?

His second Best Actor win falls out of the 12-month window, but his June '93 to March '94 run could quite possibly take the cake...

06.25.1993 = Sleepless in Seattle
12.22.1993 = Philadelphia
07.06.1994 = Forrest Gump
03.21.1994 = Best Actor for Philadelphia
03.27.1995 = Best Actor for Forrest Gump

Philadelphia and Forrest Gump were released within 6 months of each other. I think it counts as being part of the window.

An old one.
In 1948 Bogart had the Treasure of the Sierra Madre and Key Largo.
In 1954 he had Sabrina and the Caine Mutiny,

I'm of course counting the performances. But the second Oscar win itself falls too far outside of the window to count as a tangible accomplishment with heat/buzz/etc within a 12-month period.

Jimmy Stewart had the Philadelphia Story and The Shop Around the Corner in the same year.
The latter has some insane rating on RT, was the basis for You've Got Mail. The former is one of the most highly thought of comedies of all time.

In 1972 Brando had the Godfather and Last Tango in Paris. He was nominated for academy awards in both, though they fell in different academy years. The latter film has been largely forgotten, but it was a seminal work (no pun intended).,

In 1962 Henry Fonda was in the Longest Day, maybe the best war movie ever. Then in How the West was Won, whic( was the number one box office movie that year.

One last one, this mighht take the cake outside of Ford.

In 55/56 Cary Grant had An Affair to Remember and To Catch a Thief.
And then in '59:he had North by Northwest and Operation Petticoat.
And then depending on which release dares you use, in 63/4 he had Father Goose and Charade.

The performances that garnered the awards are in the window.

That's how I look at it. When the award was received shouldn't matter.

I disagree. The buzz/heat/sense of accomplishment from actually winning an Oscar, and what it does for your career/legacy, is another level altogether.

Says a guy who skipped watching the Golden Globes so he could watch a caucus he can't participate in out in a flyover state.

Award shows are not that important.

It was the Emmys, not the Golden Globes. I watched the Golden Globes.

And Oscars >>> Emmys, especially a four-month delayed Emmys.

Also, you're leaving out the part where the main thing I was watching that night was the MNF playoff game instead. The Iowa Caucus was just a commercial-break check in every so often.

Whatever awards show. Doesn't matter.

It's your industry. In your town. With people there that you might know or want to know.

Good Lord you are so worried about the upcoming election. Between monitoring that caucus, even at commercial breaks, and clutching pearls over something Megan Kelley said about an actress that everyone but you thinks had plastic surgery, you aren't backing up your normal line of "Hollywood isn't full of liberals, I don't know what to tell you".

In terms of pop culture impact, Harrison Ford starred as two of the most recognizable characters ever with Empire Strikes Back (May 21, 1980) and Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) in a 13-month span.

Edit: Oops, missed that someone beat me to it

What on earth are you talking about?

I've paid close attention to presidential elections since I was able to vote. It's fun to keep track of, watch the results coming in, etc. And the Iowa Caucus is basically the opening night of election season, no different than watching the NFL or NBA on opening night. Republican or Democrat, it doesn't matter, and I never once said I was watching out of some deranged fear of Trump or whatever. I just enjoy the coverage.

As for Megyn Kelly, she objectively comes across as a mean, spiteful person, and as of now seems like she was in the wrong, re: Erin Moriarty. Maybe she's not! Who knows? Either way, it was ONE, off-handed comment.

I swear, the way some of you project sh*t on me is so damn weird, and just as obsessive as you claim I'm being. The fact that you're even bringing all of this up in this thread, out of no where, just to stir the pot, proves that.

This is a really tough one. I tried to investigate Kevin Costner and Val Kilmer, it's just really tough to fit all of it in a 1 year time-frame.

Shia LeBeouf even had a promising trajectory at one point before the wheels fell off.

Ironic cause the Emmys are actually significant, whereas the GG are not. (Within the context of entertainment of course.)

Honestly Harrison Ford is the biggest movie star in any of our lifetimes.

And one of the last. Not many of those left.

Should've been Tom Selleck.

Hugo Weaving deserves a shoutout for being part of the 2 biggest trilogies of all time between 1999 and 2003. The Matrix and Lord of the Rings.

Should've been Tom Selleck.
I don't know about "should have" given that it worked out so well and given that Selleck's second chance at a similar role in High Road to China did not.

"Would have" is more appropriate if not for Selleck's contract with CBS and Magnum, PI.

And yeah, I would actually say that Harrison Ford wins this thread given the importance of those movies to millions of people.
