We watched it on Friday night and I was thinking about Willie's lines as I was singing it to myself on Saturday morning and thought, "Wait a second, God never turns a stone into bread in the Bible." Just a public service announcement that you shouldn't get your bible info from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, nor Willie Nelson.
Haha, never caught that!!

C'mon Willie, you're better than that!
Willie was probably stoned.

It'd be fun to think what an all star group of Americans would look like today.

There's a redo that they did a few years ago…for Haiti maybe? It was a pretty solid who's who from this generation. Some key people missing but definitely an all-star line up.

Watched this last night, really enjoyed it. I loved when Al Jerreau was singing Harry Belafonte's Day-O and improv'd the lines

"I drank too much, I have to say"
"Daylight come and me wanna go home"
"But you have to be driven home by me or Ray"

the creativity in that room was immense.

Watched this last night. So good. Stevie Wonder saved Bob Dylan. For the record. I love Dylan and think he's extremely talented but that was the absolute worst scenario for him. I applaud him for sticking it out but he should have never been there.

Watching him timidly non-sing during the full choir segments was hilarious. And yet, when Stevie showed him how, he delivered a very Dylan-esque performance that worked and is iconic.

So cool to see genuine superstars be modest and sincerely overwhelmed to be performing in front of everyone else in that group. Michael Jackson and especially Lionel Richie so professional. Waylon bailed and Prince couldn't be bothered. And those stories from Michael's house with the snake! How did Lionel Richie achieve so much in that 24 hour window?!?!

I've just watched it back to back - plus it inspires to keep supporting the charity of your choice.

I really enjoyed seeing the raw footage of all of the performers, but I didn't enjoy the show that much. I think the story could have been told better. I wish they'd just let the camera guy tell the story - he was a hoot.

Man Steve Perry can BELT it. That was awesome.

This song was cooked up and recorded when I was still in my moms belly. What a gem this was for me to watch.

Diana Ross was absolutely stunningly beautiful, both inward and outward.

This was really really fun to watch for me. I was still in utero on Jan 28th, 1985 so, while I did know who every artist was, I never got to see them as people, if that makes sense. And I REMEMBER THE SONG! So it must have still been popular years later, when I had memory. I thought it was on Michael Jackson's Anthology, which my older brother owned, so I must have heard it elsewhere.

It was amazing that they were able to hold their egos in check for a good cause.

I've been listening a lot to Huey Lewis and the News lately. Michael Jackson was in a class of his own. Cyndi Lauper and Steve Perry can sing.

Lionel Richie seems like a really good person. Before this doc, I had heard his songs, but this dude was up for almost 36 hours to pull this off. He wrote the song, he recorded the demo, he hosted the American Music Awards (performed twice, won like 6 awards), and then managed to drag all of the talent away from the afterparty and towards working long hours, for free, for a good cause.

If that doesnt get you some sort of sainthood, I dont know what does.

Great watch.

Why the hell was Dan Aykroyd there? Never could figure that out. I also laughed out loud when Huey, Dionne and Kim were having issues finding their solos and Willie was in the background and said something like "I dunno, Im too burned up right now" and it was like...3 or 4 in the morning.

Diana Ross is a smokeshow. Wow, is she gorgeous.

Thanks, I got curious and answered my own question, and on this very thread. I appreciate it!

I just watched it last night and wanted to get my first thoughts in before all the knowing.

According to Connie Hamsby, aka "Sweet Sweet Connie" (if you don't know who she is, Google), Huey is the "biggest man in rock and roll".....

She would know. Very interesting character who I got to know when I was doing radio in Little Rock.

Didn't imagine to go down the "Huey Lewis has a big weiner" rabbit hole so early in the morning, but here we are.

I will not thank you for the tip that started this all off.

She also said that Alex Van Halen (the drummer) was the best lover she ever had. She also said Peter Framton was the smallest…

Wasn't Penny Lane in Almost Famous inspired by her?

Penny Lane was inspired by a couple different groupies. My mind is failing me this early on a Saturday as to whom, though.

Randomly I did meet Connie backstage on the Van Halen 3 tour back in 1998. Recent Masters champion Mark O'Meara was back there too.

So many Connie stories. Every time she would see us she wanted to get a picture. Every time she would pull up her shirt right before the shot. I told her that if she wanted any more pics that she would have to pick those up and put them away.

Her house was essentially the coolest rock museum ever.....

Just a guy who was lucky enough to be on a great flame throwing rock radio station in Little Rock back in the 90s.

It's a miracle I got through it unscathed.

I was managing the biggest music store in the Metroplex at the time. Was tight with the Field Marketing Rep for their label and was lucky enough to get the one extra pass he had.

I finally watched it last night.

1. Waylon Jennings. LOL. **** this ***** I"m out of here. Why in the world would Stevie Wonder think they spoke Swahili. What a moron.
2. Bruce Springsteen is one cool mofo.
3. Stevie Wonder showing up the night of and thinking he was going to write the song then trying to re-write it. Really.
4. When i was a kid and the song came out, I had no idea who the old people were. Still don't know who the drunk dude is/was.
5. I bet they regret in hindsight picking Cindy Lauper over Madonna.
6. Overall, it was a fun watch.
7. Some of those people have REALLY bad plastic surgery.
8. Poor Huey and his massive schlong. Can't sing.
