This was really really fun to watch for me. I was still in utero on Jan 28th, 1985 so, while I did know who every artist was, I never got to see them as people, if that makes sense. And I REMEMBER THE SONG! So it must have still been popular years later, when I had memory. I thought it was on Michael Jackson's Anthology, which my older brother owned, so I must have heard it elsewhere.
It was amazing that they were able to hold their egos in check for a good cause.
I've been listening a lot to Huey Lewis and the News lately. Michael Jackson was in a class of his own. Cyndi Lauper and Steve Perry can sing.
Lionel Richie seems like a really good person. Before this doc, I had heard his songs, but this dude was up for almost 36 hours to pull this off. He wrote the song, he recorded the demo, he hosted the American Music Awards (performed twice, won like 6 awards), and then managed to drag all of the talent away from the afterparty and towards working long hours, for free, for a good cause.
If that doesnt get you some sort of sainthood, I dont know what does.
Great watch.
Why the hell was Dan Aykroyd there? Never could figure that out. I also laughed out loud when Huey, Dionne and Kim were having issues finding their solos and Willie was in the background and said something like "I dunno, Im too burned up right now" and it was like...3 or 4 in the morning.
Diana Ross is a smokeshow. Wow, is she gorgeous.
