Just realized this morning that Apollo 23 is turning 30 years old next hear. I can still watch this movie and none of it feels like an "old" movie. Even if it were released today as a movie it would still be fantastic.

What are some others?

LOTR is now 20 years old as well and still looks fantastic. There is some spotty cgi on Ents, cave trolls and maybe gollum but so much of it was shot with realistic effects that it will hold up for a long time imo.

Also for an 80s sci fi I think aliens holds up damn well.

Agree with Aliens (1986).

That was the first movie that came to my mind. Can't believe that it has almost been 40 years since that came out. Definitely holds up well.

Nah I just watched the 4K version of that and technically speaking the special effects are a real letdown nowadays on a large screen. Probably ok on a 55" 1080 screen.

Apollo 13 is a good one. Interestingly, it's closer to the real event (25 years) than it is to today (29 years).

From recent personal experience, this movie did not age well. Neither did Bram Strokers Dracula.

Toy Story will be 30 years old in 2 years. It looks like a movie that could have been made this year.

Agree, but you do have to explain to the kids what a payphone was.

Not really. Animation quality is pretty poor compared to today.

Movies made in the last 30 years or so have aged much better than movies prior. Speed was made in 1994 and looks much fresher in 2024 than any movie made in 1964 or even 1974 did in 1994.

To be fair, movies from the 90s also hold up better than a lot of the movies from the 2000s. The 90s were the peak time for practical effects. The technology was light years better than the 60s, but not yet heavy CGI. Starting in the 2000s, CGI really started taking over. There are a lot of movies that people watched from 2000 - 2010, that they thought looked amazing, and then 5 years later looked like $&#+.

Showed the kiddos T2 last night. Haven't seen that sucker in 25+ years. Anyway, while it wasn't amazing, it has held up surprisingly well. The CGI for the time isn't close to today's standards, but still pretty good. Cameron really knew how to tell a story. My kids were riveted.

Alien and Aliens are great. Just watched them both again recently.

I think both new Dunes are going to be similar for me are far as new movies that are going to stand the test of time.

I just like movies that are set up and told in a way like these. Wish there were more.

Bs, they played this in theaters a few years ago and it was still just as amazing as in 94

Calling someone's opinion bs? I guess yours is bs too then since you are making an apples to oranges comparison here since you are talking about a cinema vs what anybody at home has access to buy/watch.

If you don't believe me then watch the 4K release on a large oled screen. I love the movie but it technically is now very underwhelming.

I watched it a month or so ago with my son. There are definitely parts where the effects are showing, however, the story is so good my son didn't care.
