I brought up the Killers. I think they missed a perfect opportunity this year for doing a full on Vegas show.

Could've closed with the entire stadium singing Mr. Brightside, like they do in college football games.

Oh well.

Under 21 isn't 'kids' unless you picked that number arbitrarily and they were all something like 12 or younger

If you go rock there are some older bands that could probably still do a good job.

Aerosmith has plenty of hits and you could do the Run DMC combo. Def Leppard has plenty of hits that everyone recognizes, even those who think they might only know 1 song.

RHCP would be a fun one too.

18, 17, and the most excited one was the 13 year old. Are you really expecting a halftime show aimed for the under 13 crowd?

Obvious choice that will happen at some point:
Foo Fighters. The biggest rock act in the world, universal appeal, tons of hits, amazing stage presence.

Obvious choice that will never happen:
Kanye West.
Foo Fighters would be a good choice. Maybe Mariah Carey with some other artists around her.

I thought the Foo Fighters had already played it, but they haven't. They would be great.

Probably never happen but would be cool if Britney Spears can get her sh** together.

I think Vegas was a special opportunity to get a Killers/Panic at the Disco/Bruno Mars funkfest - who wouldn't dig that... I think half time shows only get watched to see if anyone will come close to Prince. Dude's reigning champ going on 17 years.

I don't know how much of "name" she is, especially in some demographics, but Kelly Clarkson is an awesome vocalist and she is really good at blending with others, so there's a lot of potential for collaboration.

I was under the impression that the acts themselves paid to perform for the Super Bowl. Is that incorrect?

I don't think the acts pay to be on, but I've read they don't get paid by the NFL either

I was wrong. In the past, it appears that they did try to get a fee from them but the artists said no.

They do the show for free but the publicity is worth way more.

She was actually performing in Vegas this weekend. A friend of mine saw her; he had no idea the Super Bowl was the same weekend and was...non-plussed.

If anyone says the current halftime shows are bad, go back to 1991 for a reset on bad halftimes

Man, those last two would be boring as hell and I like their music. Is Sister Hazel no available? Better Than Ezra?

Edit--Sorry for being so aggressive.

prior to MJ (well and new kids before him) halftime shows didn't have famous pop/rock acts.

It was mostly local marching bands, and other random variety stuff and usually some theme. No one is saying modern half times are as bad as back then.

Since MJ, it has all been well known acts, and I'd say all roughly on the same par since, with a few clear standouts

Foo Fighters would be great. And how cool would it be for Krist Novoselic to come out and play a bit of the set? In between songs Dave could jump from guitar to drums and then Krist and <insert someone for Kurt> would come on stage for a go at it. I'm not even a huge Nirvana fan but that would be neat*.

*I have never watched any Krist interviews so no clue if this is a possibility or not. Need to watch the Beato/Krist interview still.

Semantics arguments are fun.

Let's just leave the original post as:

"And for the record, I was watching in a group with 3 kids teens under 21 and they sang along with pretty much every song last night." And move on...

I think it matters. I was watching with three kids (under 8) and they didn't know a single song, but were dancing none the less.

I mean, I definitely bag on stuff online, and own it, but I dont think I really get in to too many semantics arguments.

To get it back on track, Slayer should play halftime.

Krist, Dave, and Pat Smear get together and jam Nirvana stuff when they have the opportunity. Dave & Pat said that on Stern a few years ago. But unless it's a charity event I wouldn't expect that to happen in public.

That was in 3D with normal TV sets. That's what made that one interesting. And it worked too.
