If anyone says the current halftime shows are bad, go back to 1991 for a reset on bad halftimes

prior to MJ (well and new kids before him) halftime shows didn't have famous pop/rock acts.

It was mostly local marching bands, and other random variety stuff and usually some theme. No one is saying modern half times are as bad as back then.

Since MJ, it has all been well known acts, and I'd say all roughly on the same par since, with a few clear standouts

I am old enough to remember what SB halftimes were before. The point is at least they get performers who were at the top of the Hot 100 at some point in their career, and we are not subjected to a Disney produced s***show.

Would love to see AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Eagles, Whitesnake, Halestorm, Pretty Reckless. Basically most any rock show.

I know he's done it before but it's hard to beat Bruno Mars. Not even a big fan of his music but I think he just puts on a great show.

I'd love to see a band like the Foo Fighters who can play some really well known stuff and maybe a good cover plus a collab with someone for an awesome finale.

There could be an 80s rock medley. Have bands like White Snake, Skid Row, Def Leppard, etc, and then in the middle of one of the songs, have Rick Astley interrupt with Never Gonna Give You Up.

Yacht Rock. Here me out. The scene opens with Hall & Oats doing a medley of their hits. Cut to stage right, it's the members of Ambrosia that aren't dead. They do one of their three songs for 20 seconds. Cut to stage left, it's Michael McDonald. He starts singing "I keep forgetting", boom Warren G appears out of nowhere (if he's still alive) and does a quick snippet of Regulate. Back to McDonald to transition to another banger while Warren awkwardly stands there. Kenny Loggins joins in with What a Fool Believes, then transitions to Footloose. Hey look, it's Kevin Bacon and he's dancing. Wait there's more. Christopher Cross appears on stage. Almost no one there knows who he is, and those that do don't recognize him...until he starts singing "Sailing". Then everyone goes "oh yeah, I've heard this. Cool". Kenny Loggins is back to sing Highway to the Danger Zone. A plane flies by. There's a man parachuting down into the stadium onto the stage. It's Tom Cruise. He finishes the song along with Kenny and the crew.

Trade "Sailing" for "Ride Like The Wind" and I'm in.

Can we get Toto doing "Africa"?

Super Bowl halftime shows are now exclusively about the non-football crowd. The people who want to see Metallica or Hall and Oates are already watching the game. Millions of people who couldn't have cared less about football tuned in for Rihanna and her Super Smash Bros platforms last year.

That said, Weird Al for sure.

I would love Metallica or AC/DC, but the NFL doesn't let bands play their instruments live.
They are prerecorded but vocals are live. No way would those bands they do this

I do think they need to get a rock group back in there. Metallica would be my pick. Unfortunately it seems like they want something crazy in terms of production with routines and such. Rock bands don't typically do that
I legitimately think Creed could pull it off

Creed already pulled off the greatest halftime show in the history of pro football. There is no reason for them to try again.

Interesting short documentary on his performance.

Vocals are pre-recorded too, they use the recording as a vocal stem with a hot mic in the mix as well so they can bring in some of the spoken stuff the artist does, when appropriate.

Then why did Usher sound like absolute crap last night?

I generally think these things are lip synced.

But if what we got was pre-recorded, a lot of people should never work again.

Vocally, that was not good.

Is this consistent from year to year, because I'm pretty sure Prince was all live.

Obvious choice that will happen at some point:
Foo Fighters. The biggest rock act in the world, universal appeal, tons of hits, amazing stage presence.

Obvious choice that will never happen:
Kanye West.

Axl did not sound good at Power Trip last year sadly. Brian Johnson and Bruce Dickenson both sounded way better.

We're not going to get a rock band for a while I would guess. The NFL has contracted with Jay Z and Rockafella for the halftime show if I understand correctly.

Yep, but it is Roc Nation

The Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show telecast will be produced by DPS with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins serving as executive producers, and Hamish Hamilton serving as director. Roc Nation also serving as the strategic entertainment advisors of the live performance.

Rock bands are the running backs of SB Halftime shows

Considering how much rock has diminished as a genre, if it doesn't happen in the next 5 years it may never happen again as the headlining act. I could see Post Malone or someone adding a band as support but I think being an add-on is the most a rock act could expect to be right now
