Ad Astra. Super disappointing.

Ready Player One.

I loved the book. One of a few books I've read multiple times. The movie was just garbage.

The 1998 Godzilla. I was a kid very much looking forward to an American Godzilla with good special effects and instead I got a big iguana with ballerina legs fighting Ferris Bueller.

Phantom Menace.

Even though it is the best of the prequels, and could have never lived up to the hype, it is still got the biggest "what the hell was that?" out of all movies I've seen

Nothing comes close.

For me it was Phantom Menace because I watched the original trilogy as a kid as they hit the theaters. They were all huge events and I remember me and my 7th grade buddies standing in a line for ROTJ that wrapped around the entire building. Star Wars was a cultural phenomenon for us and when it was announced Lucas was making more films with even better technology the buildup was incredible for the original Star Wars fans. Myself and a bunch of friends got tickets to the 2nd screening in College Station and halfway thru we are like "what's this metaclorian BS" and Why is there a dumb Jamaican creature running around. Huge disappointment

I can't say I was that disappointed because I prepared myself to be underwhelmed -- but had you told me that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey would be in The Dark Tower I would have thought it at least would have been competent.

And I've heard a number of people mention Ready Player One... I get not loving the movie, but the book wasn't exactly a master work. It was very much written on a pre-teen/teen level. That's not to say it was bad, but it was nostalgia porn more than a good book IMO.

I'll take a different route here and bring up my first recollection of being disappointed with a movie when I was a child.

Contact.

Granted now as an adult I appreciate it much more….but as a child and expecting to at least see some aliens (remember Independence Day was a huge thing then)….and boy was the child version of me let down with that film

I'm with you on this. I feel like the movie was marketed as more of an action and adventure film (maybe I'm misremembering) and so I was really confused and disappointed when it was over.

Didn't particularly care for Quantum of Solace
The third Star Trek movie of this recent batch was a dud.

But the big two are Batman Returns with all the stupid penguins walking around with missiles on their backs.

And Catwoman. You have Halle Berry and Sharon Stone and you turn out a piece of garbage movie.

WW1984 is so bad it's funny so I don't consider it.
Damn, it's almost like we're brothers. I have said this exact thing with regard to my dislike of Batman Returns. That movie was not bad up until that point, after which I checked out.

Can't agree with TPM, though, but until The Last Jedi, that was this board's favorite whipping boy. That movie faced an impossible task with all the fans waiting those 16 years, all of whom undoubtedly put together a better movie than George Lucas did (right, TPM haters?) And even though I consider TLJ to be the absolute worst Star Wars movie ever made, I did in fact see it in theaters multiple times (as I did all other Star Wars movies except Solo, which I saw only once) and I have rewatched it a few times at home.

Temple of Doom had some great moments, a great score, but it also featured two of the most screechingly awful characters in Short Round (annoying brat) and Willie Scott (blonde bimbo whining about her nails and her dress from Paris).

QoS - I have to admit was far better when I rewatched it during a 007 binge prior to No Time to Die, but when the wife and I left the theater, we both had this WTF kind of 007 movie was that supposed to be?

Star Trek Beyond did in fact suck ass.

Never saw Catwoman. That just looked like hot garbage.

WW1984 sucked ass.

Last movie I saw there was Young Guns. I really loved getting to go to the movies at that theater.

Mission Impossible 2. That disaster taught me how little impact actors have on movies. Good Director = Good Movie. Bad Director = Bad Movie.

Thing is, Woo isn't a bad director. It just didn't work for this one.

I'm gonna also say TPM. This was still when I had expectations for these kinds of movies. The 7-9 Star wars I waited for years before seeing them because I assumed they were bad so I couldn't be disappointed because I had such low expectations. Same goes for any reboot or aging director.

Mad Max. One of the only two times that I have walked out of a movie.

I won't be seeing the next one as a result.

The Matrix sequels are a distant second.

Episode 1 of Star Wars. I enjoyed watching 4, 5, and 6 several times, but have not watched anything Star Wars related since that abomination.

I liked 1 ok.

2 ruined it for me. I've never actually watched 3 though.

I like 7 even if it's just a remake of 4. 8 is the worst and 9 is bad but JJ Abrams attempts to redeem it and make ir fun.

The Dark Knight Rises - There was so much hype behind that one and it didn't come close to being as good as the Dark Knight.

PS - Batman Returns will always be my favorite superhero movie.

Indiana Jones IV. I was so hyped for it. I think I learned to measure my expectations for everything after that.

Oh man. I had never seen any of the other Indiana Jones movies, and my wife (GF at the time) was super hyped for a new Indiana Jones movie. That movie was absolute trash. It's a running joke now how I'll never go back and watch the old ones with her.

Please tell me you finally watched Raiders and Last Crusade. You are depriving yourself.

I was always surprised Nolan agreed to do The Dark Knight Rises, especially without the possibility of Ledger coming back.

It's really amazing how much of that movie has no sign of Batman in it.

Transformers. As an 80s kid, I was stoked when I heard that Spielberg was gonna be involved at taking a crack at this. Then it was pretty garbage and they have only gotten worse since. GI Joe wasn't any better, and now they are going to combine the two.
