And Dances with Wolves was Pocahontas.

Also, having now seen Dune Parts 1-2, I see way more inspiration from Dune than anything.

I often wonder if blood meridian will ever be made.

That would be another challenge to bring to the big screen in a way that would recreate the emotions of the book. Portraying the violence in the film would probably end up making the movie seem like a gory mess unless it was done in just the right way. I imagine that may be why it has been tossed around for a long time but never actually made into a movie.

I think that pretty accurately sums up my thoughts as well, but I sure hope Hollywood solves it.

A disappointment for me was The Road with Viggo Mortensen. This was one of those films adapted from a book that just can't recreate what was so special in the Novel. I read the book right after my son was born and that made me deeply connected to the theme of the book. It's the first time I ever read a novel and had to put it down and walk away numerous times because my heart was racing so fast. The movie just could not convey those same emotions and ended up being just another one of the numerous films set in a dystopian environment and mostly forgettable to me. It wasn't awful but because of the greatness of Cormac McCarthys novel it was a big disappointment for me.
I would second this. The book was a favorite of mine, but I would rank finishing the read of Blood Meridian as more of a priority than re-watching this movie.

The Thin Red Line

1917...only because I thought it was going to be fantastic, it was just good.

Goonies? Really?

You must have a stone cold heart not to like that movie.
During the Pandemic when no new releases were hitting theaters Alamo Drafthouse started playing classics once they weee able to reopen. I took my kids to see Goonies and ET and didn't tell them they were movies from the 80s so they wouldn't complain. The kids loved them every bit as much as I did when I was their age.
I also don't see how anyone could walk out of Avatar either. Even if you didn't care for the story, the visual spectacle alone would keep you in your seat just to see what else Cameron came up with.

I agree with this and I thought that movie was terrible. Terrible but a spectacle.

It was Dances With Wolves on a far away moon.

But it's still the best 3D movie I've experienced.
Agreed. Granted, I would never insult Dances With Wolves by comparing the two. I prefer saying it's Fern Gulley/Pocahontas on a far away moon.

However, I still remember the awe I was in when watching it in 3D on IMAX. I'd never seen anything like that.

I can't say I was that disappointed because I prepared myself to be underwhelmed -- but had you told me that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey would be in The Dark Tower I would have thought it at least would have been competent.

Mine is The Dark Tower and it's not even close. There isn't enough time in the day to name the problems with the movie and where it fell short. I understand that there isn't time in two hours to do justice to a book series of that breadth, but still. Absolutely maddening.

Conversely, I though Ready Player One did a decent enough job translating the book into a movie. While it wasn't true to the book, the essence of it was there, and the changes they made served the purpose of telling the story on the screen (i.e., the first egg challenge). The book is better, but the movie is fine.

To be fair the dark tower book series is a huge mess... I cannot fathom how people regard that as a good series

The Dark Knight Rises - There was so much hype behind that one and it didn't come close to being as good as the Dark Knight.

Good call. Such a letdown after 2 excellent movies preceded it.

Avatar. CGI was cool and all, but literally everything else about that movie was terrible.

Black Panther

Massively over hyped
He was awesome in Civil War. A standalone movie had to be good right? WRONG! Big swing and a miss.
The worst part was anyone who said it was bad was immediately branded a racist or worse.

For me it had to be Harry Potter The Half Blood Prince (Dumbledor dies and jokes about snogging) and Deathly Hallows Pt2. They completely ruined the death of Voldemort.

Which books specifically? Loved 1-3 (Waste Lands is my favorite, Blaine is a pain) and Wizard and Glass was different but interesting. I did not much like the Song of Susannah and the final book, you could tell he was just ready for it to be done. Pretty terrible ending. I think one of King's best is The Talisman.

Has to be right? I'm not a big fan of superhero movies but Black Panther was a good film. Now Wakanda Forever was garbage…
