The most disconcerting thing about this is that Cooper was supposed to be 35, which now makes me feel old as sh*t, as I was 33 when the movie came out. Though, I guess it does make me feel better that McConaughey was actually 45 at the time.

But the whole plot was that they chose Murphy to get the data to because she is the one who solves the problem of gravity. How would they know that if Murphy and Cooper never went to NASA and therefore Murphy never studied under Dr. Brand?

I've watched Star Trek long enough to no longer think about time loop logic holes!

An all time favorite for me as well. And just continues to rise for me as time passes and rewatches continue.
I had said for a while that I thought Oppenheimer was the best film of the 21st century. My brother believes it's Interstellar, which surprised me. A month or so ago, I went back and watched it for the first time in years, and, man, what an unbelievable film.

It's not as bad as the films that have 35-year-olds playing high school kids.

I just watched Interstellar for the first time over the weekend. I don't know how I ever missed it when it first came out. I wasn't even sure what the heck it was about.

I can't wrap my brain around most of the concepts. I know what a black hole is (in theory), but my brain just can't comprehend a wormhole, 5 dimensions, warping time, etc. So I just tried to appreciate the movie on a surface level instead of thinking too deep.

That said, I would've loved to see more about what the planet closest to the black hole was like. The giant waves were a start, but all the things you don't think of that would be affected. I know, movie was already almost 3 hours long so it wasn't possible. I just found it fascinating.

What about traveling through a blackhole only to create a super cryptic puzzle for your kid to solve using a watch and a bookshelf doesn't make sense?

First of all, I love this thread.

Interstellar is probably my favorite movie.

Kip Thorne's book The Science of Interstellar is amazing, and it was written before LIGO was online (gravitational wave detector), and he talks about how hopeful he is that LIGO will confirm their hypotheses. It did, so that's cool.

A HUGE part of this movie is the score. I know Hans Zimmer has done a whole lot of great work, and sure, a lot of the tunes are sampled from Philip Glass, but damn, the score for Interstellar is just about the best thing ever. It's constantly on my spotify.

Amazing movie, one of the best I've ever seen.
Each time I watch it, I get the same emotions as it's the first time

Great movie, AMAZING soundtrack. I listen to it frequently while I'm working.

Did we talk about this before? This would explain the number one hang up we all seem to have about this movie, Coop showing up at the end and no one caring.

I saw this on Instagram earlier today, and I'm sorry but it's just so dumb because...

- Coop was a test pilot for NASA.

- His dream in the opening isn't just a dream - it's a memory. From when he was a test pilot.

- Years later, because the tech hasn't advanced since he worked for NASA, when entering Miller's planet (and multiple times later in the movie) he's simply piloting the same ship model he used to test.

That's all that is.

I haven't seen the movie in a long while, but I'm absolutely going to watch it again to see if there's anything to what this dude is saying.

I always thought it was a little strange that the people on the station didn't seem to care much about Coop being there, but his presence was acknowledged by pretty much everyone, including Murph's family.

Trust me, there's not.

Not to mention, it's almost the exact same theory as the one for Top Gun: Maverick that says Maverick actually died in the test flight crash in the opening, and the whole movie is what flashes before his eyes just before he dies.

Dumber than using a bookshelf to send code?

At least that's in the realm of "Who knows what future/fifth-dimensional human beings would do or how they would operate?" And is also kind of sort of based on actual science.

Whereas the dude in the video is just completely missing a basic plot point.

This is the only fifth dimension humans will ever exist in...

just watched this for the first time.

the entire concept of losing years and years by the instant really messed me up. when they got back on the ship after the first planet with the waves and had lost 23 years it made me sick to my stomach.

I would 100% say F humanity and ride that sucker out with my kids as the world ends

great movie

i've always loved Interstellar. watched it many times. a few years passed and i had my first 2 kids. rewatched it at some point and watching Coop watch the uploads after all of that time passed hit so much harder. it was crazy.

like you, I would just ride out the end with my family.

yeah my daughter is 5 right now and I watched that movie thinking there is no way in hell I would ever leave her for multiple years.

much less in the middle of Armageddon with no mother at home.

sorry mankind...you're toast. or find someone else.

I am not sure. My kids are younger so I cant relate to that age.

seems like most of it would be over the 10 year olds head. I mean heck a lot of it is over most adults heads. at least understanding all the concepts of what is happening.

they may enjoy it but not on the level of "favorite movie ever" like a lot of adults

I knew some mid-teen kids when the movie came out who saw it several times in the theater. My daughter, 8 at the time, really seemed to enjoy it, but I think that might have been more about getting to spend time with me. And yeah, with me having my daughter when Interstellar came out really hurt me. No way would I have left her like MM did. I guess I'd just have to say, piss off humanity.

Said this before on here, but rewatched it recently for the first time since having a daughter, and the whole movie just hit on a new level. I am not a big crier, but i lost it in the scene where he leaves while Murph is protesting and she runs out of the house too late, as he is already down the road. That scene was alwys powerful, but never used to turn me into a bowl of uncontrollable sobbing mush like this.

Oh boy. Kids will 100% make you cry at **** in movies you never cared about before.
