Demon Hunter is back with a solid album after a few sub par releases. The opening 3 tracks are my favorite part of the album. The last song and title track is quite moving, There Was A Light Here.

caught fear factory on their tour on and off with cavalera conspiracy.
On off nights they headline and do demanufacture front to back plus a few others.
When they open (like when I saw them last night), they still play most of demanufacture (7 out of 11 tracks and in order)
Great intimate show.. sounding really good with young guns on everything except Dino still rocking the guitar.

Is that tim Burton on vocals?

I saw FF in 2001, shortly after 9/11. Chimera, I'll nino and Machine head. Was a freaking awesome show in San Antonio. Hung out afterward and got to chat up with Ill Nino and machine head.

Definitely not Tim Burton.. Not even Burton C Bell!

Some hired gun they found back a few years ago. He did a great job of replicating Burton's sound.. didn't really have much of his own sound.

I saw them do the demanufacture play through with Burton and Dino back in 2016.

Hell I saw them open for megadeth back in like 1995!

Doh. I'm old. Not sure why input Tim Burton.

I'll leave up for the proper shame.

Dino has a habit of burning thru front men and others.. divine heresy was a killer group but had some crazy drama too

FF has a long and storied past with nearly every member at some point fighting and reconciling with every other member.

It's actually kind of hard to follow reading it all now on wiki, let alone living it out in real time I remember always being confused about who was fighting and reconciling with who, and who was in, who was out.

Maybe one day they'll 4 get back on stage and do some shows.

That would have been my dream lineup back then. So jealous of you and those memories. I was just melting my ears to The Impossibility of Reason this very morning in the gym. It's a 10/10 album for me. So much I pulled an actual "Guess I'm eating ramen for a couple weeks" move to buy Matt DeVries signature guitar years ago when I was super broke.

Maybe one day I will learn how to play it.

Don't know where to put this since I don't think he's really "Metal" per se but, here's a fresh Michael Schenker interview that I found interesting.

Thinking about going to see him Sunday night in Houston. I really enjoyed the last concert of his I went to back in April 2015 at Whisky a Go Go. This show is going to be all UFO songs that he wrote.

Just wanted to say that the new BTBAM album is nuts. In a good way.

Still trying to confirm this... @ Legacy Hall's Box Garden (Plano): UFO (w/ Michael Schenker) ... w/ Armored Saint opening.

I am so there if this is true.

Rock on. \m/

I saw Armored Saint open for Michael Schenker's UFO concert last night at White Oak Music Hall in Houston.

I had never really listened to Armored Saint before that I know of but, they were a tight band.

I knew nothing about the background of the band or anything but, it was very easy to tell that these guys had all been playing together for a long time (almost 35 years according to Wikipedia). There weren't any 25 y/o Brazilian phenom guitarists or other replacement players that were 3 decades younger than the rest of the band.

The lead singer, he was energetic and mobile. Even jumped into the crowd and ran around for a minute. He walked right past me and I was like, wait a minute... that's the singer guy.

Definitely worth seeing in concert. Now I have to go dig up some of their music I heard last night.

After Armored Saint was finished, Michael Schenker and the rest of his band were fantastic on the old UFO stuff.

Schenker is 70 years old. 70... and just killing it on guitar.

The fans were kind of a funny demographic.

I'm 6'3" and I was the tallest person there. I think the next tallest person was only about 6'1". There was a sea of guys that were about 5'10".

There were about 15 females at the show.

And there were a couple guys in wheelchairs including one guy who was missing a leg and kept trying to get up close to the stage. More power to him. The floor was crowded but it wasn't too bad. Luckily nobody tripped over his wheelchair. Of course with $17+ for drinks, nobody was getting too drunk.

Anyway, I highly recommend getting out to see Michael Schenker and I'm adding Armored Saint to my list now too.

That Armored Saint lead singer is John Bush. He did a run with Anthrax for about 20 years until Anthrax decided they wanted to get back with Joey Belladonna.

which was a fail imo.

I can't stand Joey. Bush was so much better, and honestly sound of white noise is about all I really like from anthrax.

I've always liked Armored Saint. I saw them open up for Saxon at The Majestic Theater in San Antonio in 1986. They were a very tight band even back then.

don't have much to add as im not a real metalhead, but ive been listening to alot of Ronnie James Dio lately and I feel ashamed its taken me so long to hear his entire collection. Listening to his interviews as well. he was one brilliant son of a you-know-what. Changed my perspective on Rock.

don't be ashamed I've never heard anything but what's on radio.
It's simply not my jam, but I respect him and the influence he has.

He's more hard rock of course.

He was amazing for sure. Make sure you dig in to Iron Maiden's post 2000 stuff as well. Book of Souls sucks (IMO) but the rest is pretty awesome.

RIP Sam Rivers. I know Limp bizkit can be controversial in metal world, but they had some decent jams and Sam could play bass. Dude wrote some infections lines.

In 9th Grade in Saudi Arabia (1984-1985), I wore out the "Last in Line" tape.
We didn't really have radio airplay over there. So it was all finding out about bands from friends and sharing tapes (pre-Napster LOL).

Through sheer happenstance, I became friends with Jimmy Bain (Bass) and Vinny Appice (Drums) and used to run around SoCal with those guys from 2004-2007. I saw them a couple more times after I was living in Australia. The last time I hung out with Jimmy was probably in 2015, a few months before he died.

Through Vinny, I was able to meet Ronnie backstage at a "Heaven and Hell" show in Irvine in 2007. While 14 year old me would have killed for that experience, it just kind of happened for 37 y/o me. I've met a fair number of Rock and Heavy Metal musicians, Ronnie was every bit as cool as you'd expect.

If you're getting into Dio as a band, the first 3 albums are a must.
If you're getting into Dio as a singer, go back and start at Rainbow Rising, then move on to the Black Sabbath stuff.

In Australia, I bought a CD called Black Sabbath the Dio Years, or something like that. That's a great one to just listen to start to finish.

And I'd even add in the couple of songs they recorded at the end of 2006 before "Heaven and Hell" headed out on tour in 2007.

Stargazer. Dio just lays it the eff down on that one. Really shows off his vocal abilities.

Sick New World is planning to come to Fort Worth next year on Oct 24. I assume it'll be at Texas Motor Speedway as I don't know of any other Fort Worth venue capable of hosting a music festival. We'll see if it sells enough tickets to avoid getting canceled again.

Forgot to add earlier.

There's a Ronnie James Dio biopic that came out 3 years ago that's definitely worth a look.

i'm sure he had to get permission? He's not the sole writer of the song. And Metallica owns their catalog.

I saw Judas Priest and Sabaton there a year or two back. Venue was fine for the actual show, but it's a pain in the ass for me to get to and the parking ain't great.
