Demon Hunter is back with a solid album after a few sub par releases. The opening 3 tracks are my favorite part of the album. The last song and title track is quite moving, There Was A Light Here.

Still trying to confirm this... @ Legacy Hall's Box Garden (Plano): UFO (w/ Michael Schenker) ... w/ Armored Saint opening.
I am so there if this is true.
Rock on. \m/

I saw Armored Saint open for Michael Schenker's UFO concert last night at White Oak Music Hall in Houston.
I had never really listened to Armored Saint before that I know of but, they were a tight band.
I knew nothing about the background of the band or anything but, it was very easy to tell that these guys had all been playing together for a long time (almost 35 years according to Wikipedia). There weren't any 25 y/o Brazilian phenom guitarists or other replacement players that were 3 decades younger than the rest of the band.
The lead singer, he was energetic and mobile. Even jumped into the crowd and ran around for a minute. He walked right past me and I was like, wait a minute... that's the singer guy.
Definitely worth seeing in concert. Now I have to go dig up some of their music I heard last night.
After Armored Saint was finished, Michael Schenker and the rest of his band were fantastic on the old UFO stuff.
Schenker is 70 years old. 70... and just killing it on guitar.
The fans were kind of a funny demographic.
I'm 6'3" and I was the tallest person there. I think the next tallest person was only about 6'1". There was a sea of guys that were about 5'10".
There were about 15 females at the show.
And there were a couple guys in wheelchairs including one guy who was missing a leg and kept trying to get up close to the stage. More power to him. The floor was crowded but it wasn't too bad. Luckily nobody tripped over his wheelchair. Of course with $17+ for drinks, nobody was getting too drunk.
Anyway, I highly recommend getting out to see Michael Schenker and I'm adding Armored Saint to my list now too.
don't be ashamed I've never heard anything but what's on radio.Serious Lee said:
don't have much to add as im not a real metalhead, but ive been listening to alot of Ronnie James Dio lately and I feel ashamed its taken me so long to hear his entire collection. Listening to his interviews as well. he was one brilliant son of a you-know-what. Changed my perspective on Rock.

In 9th Grade in Saudi Arabia (1984-1985), I wore out the "Last in Line" tape.
We didn't really have radio airplay over there. So it was all finding out about bands from friends and sharing tapes (pre-Napster LOL).
Through sheer happenstance, I became friends with Jimmy Bain (Bass) and Vinny Appice (Drums) and used to run around SoCal with those guys from 2004-2007. I saw them a couple more times after I was living in Australia. The last time I hung out with Jimmy was probably in 2015, a few months before he died.
Through Vinny, I was able to meet Ronnie backstage at a "Heaven and Hell" show in Irvine in 2007. While 14 year old me would have killed for that experience, it just kind of happened for 37 y/o me. I've met a fair number of Rock and Heavy Metal musicians, Ronnie was every bit as cool as you'd expect.
If you're getting into Dio as a band, the first 3 albums are a must.
If you're getting into Dio as a singer, go back and start at Rainbow Rising, then move on to the Black Sabbath stuff.
In Australia, I bought a CD called Black Sabbath the Dio Years, or something like that. That's a great one to just listen to start to finish.
And I'd even add in the couple of songs they recorded at the end of 2006 before "Heaven and Hell" headed out on tour in 2007.
i'm sure he had to get permission? He's not the sole writer of the song. And Metallica owns their catalog.Fuzzy Dunlop said:
I'm looking forward to hearing that!
I wonder what James and Lars are going to have to say about it. Not that it matters.

Ticket secured for Iron Maiden & Megadeth next September. Venue in Charlotte isn't great, but I'm willing to put up with a lot to Maiden again.
