I literally said the exact opposite of what you're accusing me of. When I said, "I'm all for having civil political discussions about Hollywood in devoted threads like this," what did you think I meant? I'm genuinely curious how the hell you read that and arrived at the conclusion you just came to?
Yeah, but you are in THIS THREAD *****ing about politics in the discussion. That's why people are calling you out.

I'm b*tching about drive-by assh*les who feel it's their duty to spew their political bullsh*t all over this board, this thread included. Per usual, you're being purposefully obtuse to that fact, as someone who has, multiple times, admittedly/literally said you don't care how many threads you disrupt or derail, in your pursuit to "speak truth" and inform the rest of us here how dumb, naive, and out of touch we are.

When, in reality, you are simply someone who would argue with a wall for days if it gave you the chance to feel like the Renaissance man you believe yourself to be. Talk about getting called out - I've never seen someone get called out as much as you, someone who is synonymous with being a ruiner of threads, whose hubris and pride knows no bounds, to the point where your handle is one of the few on this site used as an actual verb, in the most negative of connotations.

It is pretty amazing that a typical television season has gone from around 39 weeks to 22 to 8 or 10, with big gaps between seasons.

That's a lot of lost work for people behind the cameras.

The old model is slowly but surely returning. But it won't be on network TV exclusively anymore, it's moving to streaming. Literally every studio we talk to now wants "elevated procedurals." Which means network-style dramas with elongated seasons again, just at a slightly better quality. No one wants prestige, eight-episodes-a-season dramas anymore. At least for the time being. A studio yesterday even told us they're looking for shows "that could have been series in the '70s and '80s." The mentality has completely shifted.
That actually excites me. This 8 episodes once every year or two is killing me

As an unapologetic conservative that votes Republican (cause I have no other realistic choice) I would just like to point out that the last three Republican governors of the great state of Texas have offered all kinds of tax incentives to corporations across many industries (including film) to move operations to Texas. And as I recall, most republicans were more than happy to cheer on the pro business climate such incentives created.

Shhhhhhh

Horsesh*t. YOU are the one disrupting this thread. The TOPIC of this thread is political by nature, as politics is THE #1 reason for Hollywood's current struggles. You even said yourself (aka lied) that you are "all for having civil political discussions about Hollywood in devoted threads like this", yet you are jumping down people's throat and asking for their "newsletter" for merely expressing an opinion you don't like on the topic.

People are allowed to agree with the opinion of others. They are allowed to express those similar opinions in their own way. Even if it offends your sensibilities. Be an adult and either ignore the posts, or counter it with an actual discussion.

Stop trying to be the self appointed F13 moderator while hypocritically stating otherwise.

TNNCS and I have been allied since the alien disclosure thread, of which I am a major contributor, so it's important to note his value to this board.

It's always amazing to me to see people push back so hard - who else is on the ground, talking to people in the industry, seeing firsthand the triumphs and struggles of The Town, AND who has an outstanding knowledgeable base of film and television (yes, rivaling mine).

Let's cut some slack here and write and read in charity. This is a high traffic board and plenty of lurkers obviously care about what we say.

what I don't understand is how can there be a lack of work when there are like 400 streaming and TV channels now -

versus the 3 channels from 1967?

The problem with direct replies is that people often lose the subject because they don't go back and read what was replied to.

The last bit was why I didn't really feel bad for them. If it's that bad, then go find something to else to do. Don't sit there and cry about not having the work or job you love. There are plenty of people who go to jobs they hate everyday to put food on the table and take care of their families. If you're holding out for a job you're passionate about and crying about not having one, I don't feel bad for you.

For whatever reason, there is an increasing number of posters here who are F16 regulars, who hate Hollywood - and everything it represents - with a passion, who inexplicably feel the need to CONSTANTLY pop over here to let us know just how horrible Hollywood is, how stupid and entitled everyone in Hollywood is, and to complain endlessly about the Hollywood "agenda" that's coming for their children, etc, etc, etc. It's a never-ending barrage, in thread after thread after thread, and it just gets really, really, really old having to navigate it. These people gleefully stir up sh*t all over this board, and throw fits when challenged in any way, shape or form. So in return, my default position is to simply meet their jackassness with my own jackassness in return, and to try and make this place as miserable for them as they often make it for us. I'm not saying that some of their complaints aren't valid, and I don't mean to play message board cop, I just literally don't understand the psychologic need to come to a board they clearly don't like, turn every last discussion into a political one, and try and piss off as many people as they can in the process. I apologize for overreacting in this specific instance, I just feel like I've read a version of your post literally thousands of times here.
I find it interesting that you post here most but your second most favorite place to post is F16.

Massive catalogues on demand. Anything new doesn't just compete with current TV and movies like the old days, but past TV and movies as well.

New content on either traditional networks or streamers may be passed over by audiences in favor of older movies or shows that are either new to them or that bring nostalgia. For instance, Black Sails ended like 7 years ago, but now that it's on Netflix I'm watching it for the first time. That's time I'm not spending watching new content anywhere else. Sometimes I like to watch things I've seen before, and that's more time I don't spend on new content.

Streamers are, I think, starting to understand this and paring back productions because there's a kind of diminishing returns there. The more they make, the less it's all watched. Networks have finite airtime, so they'll naturally be competitive. Competing with streaming catalogues though, they need to either stick with what they know works or be very strategic in where they put their resources. I'm wondering how they view syndication value now with streaming versus on air. I can't imagine a rerun show is going to be pulling in the same advertising dollars if it's available on demand.

I haven't posted on that board since January 2021, and as you can clearly see, it was once in a blue moon prior to then. That, and I don't really post anywhere else on this site, and never really have much, save for the Premium board every so often, so of course the numbers are going to be skewed. Hell, I don't think I've posted on the football board in at least a decade, and yet that's apparently my number three "most favorite." But sure, take some minimalistic graph void of all kinds of context, and try to peg that on me.
