Listening to one (Tosh) this morning and the mid show commercial break was literally three straight ads for random women with podcasts about "real talk" with their friends about "everything"

I know every comedian has one already and just about anybody that was ever on a popular series has done a "real story" about the filming of it.

Will rampant narcissism keep fueling new podcasts forever or will it peak?

I think calling it rampant narcissism is very cynical. It's just becoming more expected of you to be in the entertainment industry, just like maintaining a social media presence is. I'm actually surprised you haven't seen more musicians jump on the train with podcasts, especially since they are the ones most affected by the pirating content issues that have gone on the past 25 years. Is it narcissism if you are making a living by people really wanting to hear your content?

There's a big difference between the folks making a living with quality content and the level of stuff I'm talking about.

Carlin, Dubner, Cooper, Portnoy, Et all aren't running ads, they're selling them to the wannabe stars.

We are definitely at the peak, and I think to some extent, podcasts will slowly come up then drift out.

Once you've listened to someone talk for over 80 hours, you get to know them fairly well, and start to hear them repeat much of the same thing. Then, someone new or fresh hits the scene, which can pull your attention to them, allowing you to get to know them. I've definitely seen my listening on current events/news podcasts shift over time. Granted, that could have just been me looking for just the right one that I gel with.

The current events ones are the only ones I listen to with any regularity. Politically, I lean right of center, but tend to get tired of the more far right people. Finding something more center or center/right was difficult because of how polarized everything is.

The only non news/current events podcasts I really listen to are Rogan and The Shawn Ryan show. Those generally come down to their guest and whether they sound interesting.

Some big money to be made in podcasts but like many things the top 10% are making 95% of it.

Barrier to entry is low but constantly putting out quality content is a grind.

Market will correct itself just like everything else....i'm no expert but im sure it costs money to put out a podcast and if it's low quality and no one's listening then odds are the people putting it out won't be doing it for very long...

There's also only so many hours in the day to absorb media.....between streaming services....youtube....regular cable....podcasts.....radio.....all levels of media that don't generate traffic eventually will get weeded out....

So I'm sure there's going to still be growth in podcasts as we're not expected to peek as a population until around 2070....but those that don't generate listeners will stop soon just like terrible tv shows did when that was all there was besides the radio....

MorningBrew has hit that news without a political slant sweet spot pretty well.

Rogan is the biggest one out there and even his gets repetitive at times.

I enjoy Breaking Points for political topics. It's less of a center view and more of a respectful discussion of political current issues from the right and the left's viewpoints.

Has anyone seen or heard of a podcast with real, genuine conversations where nothing is off limits? I think that might be a good concept for a podcast if it hasn't been done before

I quit listening pre-Spotify when it was just his comedy friends, MMA and Weed.

That's funny, I only started listening after he moved to Austin and wasn't toeing the covid line. I still listen depending on the guests. Typically don't listen to the MMA and comedy episodes.

As for podcast peak, people will continue trying to break in but the number of people who will actually stick with it and make money will certainly plateau sooner or later.

Only listen to a couple of podcasts about my favorite soccer team and history to fill my morning drive

I'd like to believe so. Eventually you get tired of people merely conversing. Any podcast that isn't performed by someone talented and articulate can be discarded, as far as I'm concerned.

Abso-f'ing-lutely not.

It'll be at least 3 years, maybe 5, until I enter the game.

Then and only then can you say "I'm out, it is only downhill from this point."

I really don't care if the podcasters are doing it for narcissism, greed or whatever. Just have good conversation with interesting people and I'll tune in. So mamy podcasts are focused on crap I'm not interested in I'll never listen anyway.
I have about 7-8 podcasts I rotate through & listen when they have good guests. The rest of my drive time is usually audiobooks

Rogan and lex Friedman are two I listen to with some regularity, but it is 100% dependant on the guest. For some reason I feel dirty listening to Rogan but I do really enjoy it a lot of the time so it doesn't really make sense.

I cant think of anything less appealing than listening to a hard right podcast and I'm about 90 degrees right.

I used to listen to sword and scale and casefile but haven't listened to them in a long time. Same with stuff you should know as it seems kind of elementary sometimes.

Have you ever listened to Caribbean Rhythms?

No and that is exactly the kind of hard right person I was talking about, the Twitter hard right. I probably agree with so much of what they have to say but any time I have heard someone from Twitter talk I've got the ****** chills. Maybe I will give it a try, who knows.

He's a great performer. He mostly talks about politics/the sociopolitical environment, but it seems like he cares way more about philosophy and art and military history than anything else. Sometimes he will ramble, but most episodes are at least decently prepared.

But yes, he's more or less an unabashed racist. Easy to ignore that stuff, at least it is for me. It helps that he often makes decent to good points on the origins and developments of anti-white movements/ideas in the culture.

I dont care about racism, but the people on Twitter are terminally online and it shows when they talk. If they don't sound like a person who is terminally online then I can deal with pretty much anything.
Capybara

Rarely so. He's articulate. Also he's like 45 iirc, so not nearly as much brain rot in his adolescence compared to those I assume you're talking about.

I'll give it a shot. I do like the fact that it is called Caribbean rhythms though. Quite funny.

I've heard that podcast networks and shows are actually pretty damn cheap to set up and run and e-commerce upstarts pretty much just unload dump trucks of money on the ones with bigger name hosts and there's no real signs of that stopping.

Now the ones I think are funny are when random person who is a distant friend or something starts one. I'll always check those out for a laugh when they get shared with me to check out because they are all so bad and dumb. All of them have descriptions about wanting to share their 'interesting' opinions and try to do it in a funny way and the vast majority are just recyclings of the latest YouTube shorts from Rogan or some other popular podcast.

It's not his real voice, but listen to recent interviews on there and it still has hints of Dracula. Keep listening and you'll find out he fundamentally disagrees with the basis of the Constitution.

I've recently begun trimming down my podcast list on my PocketCasts app. It seems that as a podcast gains popularity, they tend to spend more time rambling at the beginning before getting on topic and/or starting their show.

I thought it may not be his real voice but he has a lot of speech patterns of eastern European types that would be hard to mimic convincingly.

Anyone have any suggestions for comedy bits?

I have listened to Pandora for years; Tosh, L CK, Burr, Segura, Dan Cummins, Chad Daniels, Bergatze, etc. Whether it is their specific channel or appear on other channels. The issue is that many are old bits, some at least 10 years old. Plus it is extremely repetitive. Doesn't seem to matter what specific comedian's channel you pick for Pandora comedy, you will hear the same bits almost every day? I realize some of this may because of royalties and costs.

I like the format of Pandora that is just keeps playing. And uses almost no battery life due to no video. So looking for another app/collection where there would be bits where I could just play during work and not have to pick up phone or ipad to change to another selection. Thanks!

Ngl, you're the last person I expected to have a conversation about BAP with.

Also I could understand japan because if the hegemony, but brazil seems like a weird choice. I've spent enough time in both to know that I prefer Japan 10 times out of 10.
