How long do you want to ignore this user?
This is a stunning rewatch right now. Sorkin politics aside, there are so many storylines that are literally "that's pretty much what just happened last week".

Always a great show, but SO good with what's going on right now.

Sorkin should never be allowed to make anything else. What a soft man.

This is my go to sleep show. I watch an episode every night and it's not loud. You're right, Im often thinking how it's amazing we are still having the same arguments to this day.
I've come to the conclusion that the main character isn't Bartlett, it's Josh Lyman

Go to sleep to this show as well. Not sure there is a main actor though.

It's because they were all SO GOOD.

Bartlett was supposed to rarely even be shown, and Rob Lowe was supposed to be the star of the show, going in.

It's just crazy how close the storylines that unfolded over years, have about happened in weeks.

I love breaking bad. I love the wire. I love the sopranos.

I think west wing is the best show of all time and two cathedrals is a master class in writing and maybe the best tv episode of all time.

Pretty sure I remember reading that the show was going to be about Sam at first.

I am coincidentally tonight, watching the episode where Josh Lyman gets in a fight with internet message boards, which was totally based on the fact that Sorkin used to go on TelevisionWithoutPity (RIP) and get in fights with internet message board posters during the show's run.

Unsurprising. I've never understood the praise he receives, or used to receive. Watching The Social Network felt like chewing glass.

Admittedly I've always been drawn to writers who were outside of the institutions, at least during their lifetimes. Currently reading Hollywood by the notorious degenerate Bukowski. Stunned at how good it is.

A Few Good Men
Social Network
Charlie Wilson's War
Steve Jobs
Moneyball
Mollys Game

All great. West Wing great.

Lol, OK. There's a reason he won an Oscar for that script.

He's a genius at dialogue (even if you don't like what he's saying).

Respectfully disagree. Think I'm done paying attention to anything in long form by a living American. Where are the cynics? Americans are the true cynics; a shame to let this tradition die in favor of the cutesy or bloviated nonsense that has replaced it.

I'll forever be a Sorkin hater. Cackled reading his (seemingly earnest) idea for the Dems to nominate Mitt Romney rather than Kamala.

Thanks for your contributions. In addition to saying you'll "not pay attention to anything written by an American anymore".

I'm guessing you've never watched an episode of The West Wing.

The entire point of the thread was that assassination attempts, diseases, what the First Lady did in that, and who has been in control as Commander in Chief, and was that disclosed legally, and a VP getting eaten up by their own party is incredibly prescient given what has played out in real life in a matter of weeks.

Go ahead and keep telling us how much you hate Sorkin though.

His style stinks. Sickening liberal pieties abound. And I don't need a tv show to help me make sense of real political events.

I started a rewatch last month. It is a great show. I really enjoyed the Isaac and Ismael episode with the high school kids stuck in the cafeteria during a lockdown and how they explained Muslim extremism to them. Hot topic still; really hot when they released it a month after 9/11.

Go on and head back to F16 now.

His style has made him many of millions of dollars because people watch it.

And no one said a TV show would "help you make sense" out of what is happening today. All that was said was "a very good TV show from 20 years ago accidentally showed everything that has played out the last few weeks."

Never watched. Due to this thread, I started it last night as my new "go to sleep" show. So far, so good through the first episode.

I should say it's my go to sleep show because I've seen it all the way through 5-6 times now. It's not a boring show, I love the pacing and rhythm of it. This thread got me thinking yesterday about just how many topics they hit that we've lived through this past week or two.

Assassin attempt
Gaza
Current President hiding illness and being pushed out
Brokered convention?
Anything else??

Also I just started listening to a West Wing podcast. It has Will Bailey as one of the two members and they bring on a ton of former cast. It's been great to fill time during the dead sports period.

Typed something out but it was deleted. Don't care to reproduce it. Clearly I visit this site for sadomasochistic reasons. Done, as even that has withered to nothing. Only the five letter man is fun to argue with.

You missed a few:

-The President's wife medicating him herself
-The VP being hidden in the closet, then pushed out at the last minute.
-Who was in charge while the president had his undisclosed episodes? (And there were legal reasons they had to be disclosed).

It's all so real life right now, written dramatically 20 years ago.

Meanwhile, it was written by a flaming anti-american lib about a president of the other party. Yet, it's basically a prediction of his own party. The real and true threat to "OUR DEMOCRACY."

F16 **** again.

You can disagree on policies, but not one on the West Wing was "anti-American". Anti your views, possibly. And I'm quite conservative, so as mentioned in the first post, set politics aside, and acknowledged that.

Just that an incredibly well written/incredibly acted show from 20 years ago is incredibly prescient.

But go ahead and rant about "anti- American libs", as it relates to entertainment shows.

(I'll bet our ballots line up pretty closely).

Never seen it. I already spend too much time delving into US politics on this site. And now that our politics have jumped the shark into the land of idiocracy by the real-life Democrats, I just don't see how this interpretation of them will be entertaining.

It's a show about politics that you launched by relating to our current political climate.

You opened the door; I walked through it.
20ag07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's an entertainment show, that in its day had what was considered a political slant, that today, would be laughable.

But had a ton of storylines over the course of several years, that are playing out in real time over weeks, done by great writing and incredible acting.

I know how to separate my entertainment viewing and my ballot (and I'm guessing you'd like my ballot).

Head back to F16 if you've never watched, or would never care to watch, the show though.
