Sounds interesting. I've heard the book series is geared more adult, too much for a 12 year old boy?
It's borderline, adults would probably appreciate the humor more, it has cussing, gore, and they talk casually about sex(though it's mostly for comedic dialogue) but beyond references there are no sex scenes.

Honestly if your kid has played any M rated video games like Grand Theft Auto it's no worse than that.

For this movie or series to be good thought it'll probably have to be R just for the cussing and the gore.

Well no sex scenes except for the Carl & Prince Maestro snick

I mean half the series has a talking head of a sex doll. There is a lot of jokes about sex stuff but no specific sex scenes.

Also speaking of sex dolls (courtesy of Skippy the Magnificent) the Expeditionary Force books by Craig Alanson is another great/funny sci-fi series!

Never tried audio books. Thought I would hate them. Then tried Dungeon Crawler Carl based on this thread. Book 1 had me laughing out loud. Just started book 2. These are amazing!

Thanks OP!

Matt announces a stand alone book not in the DCC universe available Feb. 10 he wrote at the same time as Inevitable Ruin.

https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/772005/operation-bounce-house-by-matt-dinniman/

I don't think this bodes well for a release of the next DCC book in the early part of 2026, but who knows, he's picked up the pace on Patreon a little bit with the next installment.

About 10 chapters into book 1 on audibles. Favorite line so far is "your creature crapped in my mom's ashes" Makes me laugh everytime I think of it and hear it in that voice in my head.

So a bit of an update on my last enthusiastic post about the release dates of book 8. I had said simultaneous, which caused a minor case of "Yo, Matt, STFU, we didn't confirm nothing yet. *Smack*" amongst my friends at Penguin Random House and Audible. I'm pretty sure Shawn over at the Signed Page/Grim Oak Press actually started crying. So let's rephrase all this.
The ebook will release on 5/12/26, like originally announced.
Audible's audiobook will pub 5/26/26 and will be available for pre-order starting next week.
Ace's hardcover edition will be published 6/2/26, available everywhere books are sold, and will be available for pre-order starting next week.
Additionally, there will be a limited number of trade paperback copies with the Luciano Fleitas cover only available directly from Grim Oak Press, also pubbing 6/2/26. Sign up for their newsletter at www.grimoakpress.com to learn when and how to pre-order. If you ever bought anything from the Signed Page, they're the same, amazing people.
They're doing me a huge favor by allowing me to continue to offer the same paperbacks you've been collecting, so please give them love.

I have to wonder, as popular as the books are and considering the genre, if this would ever turn into an actual RPG video game?

Love this series. I found out about them when someone brought in kittens named Carl and Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk. With a name like that, I had to ask where it came from. Just started book 7.

Bought it but haven't read it yet. Been reading Eric Ugland's The Good Guys series.

Similar game concept but written very differently.

I'd be interested in your take when you do. I love DCC but Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon I absolutely did not. Just wondering if his other works are worth reading or if I should stick to DCC.

So, I'm excited about the books getting picked up for a TV series, but at the same time worried about the ability to bring this DCC world to life onscreen. Its gonna require soooo much CGI and if not done properly but instead on the cheap it'll just be a disappointment. I think it's almost better suited as an animated series with incredible voice acting and animation, like Blue Eyed Samurai or The Legend of Vox Machina/Mighty Nein.

Before you get to book 8 in the good guys series, be sure to start the Bad Guys series, because they begin to cross each other. You can check the publication date to find the right order.

I'm planning to pick it up soon. I hear it's quite a bit more political, so I am on the fence about it. I'd prefer not to figure out that one of my current fav authors is going to get all preachy

There's a tabletop RPG currently in the works. Haven't heard anything about an actual video game though. It would work well as an extraction game

I mean the description sounds pretty similar to DCC about a corporation profiting off the death of innocents

What I've read is it is much more serious and more of a commentary on the current political climate. The setting sounds similar to DCC but I've heard it is very different. I'll probably still read it at some point

Dresden is my 2nd favorite series, right behind DCC. Very similar style of comedy and storytelling in different genres. Love both of them

I have Operation Bounce House on hand to read this week. I have about 50 pages left in This Inevitable Ruin.

On a related note, I was able to get a pair of tickets for the DCC night for a Colorado Avalanche game. Was disappointed though because i wasn't able to get the VIP tickets that included the meet and greet.

Damn! I'm not an Avs fan, but I'd definitely pay for a hat or shirt with that Donut/Avs logo on it!
